What if some of the gold the Incas gathered to pay Atahualpa's ransom never reached the Spanish?

When Atahualpa was captured in Cajamarca, the Inca ruler offered to fill one room with gold and others with silver in exchange for his freedom. The ransom began arriving from various parts of Tawantinsuyo, but Atahualpa was executed before all the wealth could be collected.

And then something happened that still fuels one of the great legends of the Andes: some of that gold supposedly changed course and disappeared in the Llanganates Mountains of Ecuador.

For centuries, explorers searched for a route related to the legendary Valverde's Route, a supposed document that indicated the location of the hidden treasure. Some claimed to have been close. None were able to prove it.

In this video, we discover what part of Atahualpa's treasure is documented, what happened to the riches that were still en route when he was executed, and how the Llanganates Mountains became the setting for one of South America's greatest lost treasure mysteries.

Because knowing that gold existed is one thing... but knowing where it ended up is quite another.
