Hummingbirds are found throughout the Americas — including South America, the Caribbean, and parts of Canada. Around 360 of the 366 known species live in South America and the tropics. We're fixing this for future videos. Thanks for keeping us honest. 🐾

"Waking takes almost an hour" same

I had no idea life as a hummingbird was so hard

One cold morning, 60 years ago my sisters and me found a "dead" hummingbird.  We were pleasantly surprised when it woke up and flew away.

I have 2 hummingbird feeders. I watch them all the time. My cat caught one once but I saved it. I brought him into the house and didn’t think he’d make it. But a few minutes later he was up and flying around. But, before he did that I was able to hold him, i could feel his little heart but, I figured he’s in shock and would pass. He lived. Flew around the house and he had some damaged feathers on top of his head from “that cat!”  I let him fly outside and do you know, that little hummingbird came to my living room window everyday after that to look at me! He would also sit on a branch that was next to my window resting looking at me. As if to say thanks. I knew it was him by his broken and messed up little feathers in his head. I’m going to get more feeders for them this year.

I had a hummingbird that would come visit me as I sat on my deck… it would come and fly in front of my face for a few seconds and then dash off as quick as it came…. Happened three times..one summer… awesome to experience ❤

This is why if you ever put a hummingbird feeder up, and forget to refill it, the birds will freak out. They get pissed, when they need food, and it isn't available.

This makes me want to buy a hummingbird feeder.

And here I am almost never eating breakfast, sometimes only eating once a day.
I'd never make it as a hummingbird.

My grandfather may be rest in peace ALWAYS had multiple humming bird feeders in the back yard. He took it very serious. Always filling them. Always keeping still when one would visit to drink. Always shushing everyone and saying "look look look" then the bird would zoom away sounding like a propeller and he would continue his day waiting for another to come visit. Humming birds would would make nests In his yard and it was a joy to watch them grow.
Needless to say the practice was instilled in my mother and then in  me. I have grown up around humming birds and have feeders in my yard of course. Whenever I get a visit by one I make sure to shush everyone around and watch in awe at these little miracles. Because that's all I know. The when it buzzes off we all smile and resume our routines.
I tell this story because hummingbirds are special to me and whenever I get customer at my feeder I know its my grandfather visiting me telling me hes watching.
And then one time believe it or not at a terrible time in my life when I was in jail after terrible string of choices in college I was sitting in the outdoor rec area. Its surrounded by concrete in downtown Santa Ana CA. with just a roof opening behind chain link. I was alone and a single humming bird flew down the grate into the rec room. My jaw dropped and I teared up.

Fun fact, small things have faster heartbeats because they experience everything in slow motion. They're lifespan is smaller so they're going through things faster than us. Their reaction time is 10x faster than ours. The larger you get, the bigger your gravitational pull, and the more lightwaves get distorted around your body. Everything on Earth experiences life differently, from the colors to the temperature. Nothing is consistent, but everyone is valuable!

Stuff like this is why grandkids are so darn smart. Nothing wrong with binge watching educational videos that actually teach something in an engaging way. Good job!

That explains why they're not happy whenever we have to bring in the feeder to refill it.

I would assume its better to plant flowers than to put out feeders but anything we can do to help these guys is worth it.

I love hummingbirds... they always come zooming around my house and seem to come right up to us as if to say hello.

It's not as awful as the thumbnail.
They just die of old age, like any old human would, peacefully.

As 64 yrs old man, I didn't know lot of issues for Humming birds. We need show that at kindergarten as I already learned some animals and insects when I was kid.

I once found a baby hummingbird in my backyard on the concrete beneath a very tall tree. I thought it was a toy bird from some decorative bird houses we had. But after I had passed it a few times. I realized it was alive. It must have fallen from somewhere in that large tree. There's a long story to this, but to shorten it. I fed it and took care of it for a few weeks. By then it could fly and get around on it's own.  I took it back to the backyard on my hand. It eventually flew up the tree, to where I could no longer see it.
I know my mother will never forget babysittingfor a couple of hours when I asked her too. It was only the size of a childs thumb when I founf it. They are a beautiful creation.  Praise God .
