I've been investigating the bus route used by railway YouTuber Saionji in his "Journey Across Japan Using Only Local Buses."

I'll be challenging myself to see how far I can get on the first day using the Japan Sea route I introduced last time, while also investigating Saionji's route from Nayoro onwards.

◆Travel Rules
1. Verify the route that will get you to your destination faster than Saionji's by using only local buses.
2. Airplanes, Shinkansen, express trains, long-distance ferries, and highway buses are prohibited.
3. Emergency funds that can be used for non-prohibited modes of transportation other than buses are limited to the amount Saionji spent.
*Wakkanai → Hachinohe: Within 4,420 yen
4. As this is a verification trip, routes and times will be researched in advance, but the goal is to make it reproducible using local information as much as possible. Take a ticket
5. The starting day will be Saturday, matching Mr. Saionji's schedule.
6. Book accommodation on the day of travel.
7. Transfer times will be based on April 2022, the verification date, but transfers on routes that were clearly suspended in March, when Mr. Saionji filmed the original video, are not allowed.

Usable buses
Local buses, community buses, and express buses using local roads.
*Reservation-only buses are OK if reservations can be made in time at the boarding location.
Unusable buses
Buses that travel on roads with green signs such as expressways, regional high-standard roads, and urban expressways.

We have done our best in the verification, but there may be errors.
Mr. Saionji is amazing for doing this trip without a timetable!

◆Errata
1) There was an error in the on-screen text regarding the discontinuation year of the Rumoi Main Line between Rumoi and Mashike. Correction:

2) It appears that if you board the Rumoi Express at Hekisui, you cannot disembark within Takikawa City. (Added 2022/6/9)
