Stranger Things has always been a show bred on and baked in nostalgia.

But in season 5, we're quickly learning that the nostalgia that once felt warm and wistful is growing into something much more sinister: Vecna's plan to freeze time in the Upside Down in 1983.

In this video essay/analysis, not only do I try to solve the “frozen time” mystery inside the narrative by exploring Vecna’s motivations, but I'm also going to establish its significance outside the narrative by examining the Duffer Brothers’ sensibilities.
