That's been a fantastic journey. Thanks for sharing. It's great that these beautiful bikes are still being kept alive by folks like you. Richard certainly looked well chuffed with the end result. 👏👍🏍

Absolutely fantastic set of videos, loved the journey from start to finish, and many thanks for sharing them. The video’s took me right back to May 1975 when I bought my brand new Yamaha RD350B at a price of £613.00 on the road. I had the time of my life on it and it was the only bike I ever regretted selling.

I had the Rd 250e when I was 20 which is now 40 years ago are used to love taking things off and cleaning them these episodes brought back so many memories cheers mate, and to this day I still regret selling it.👍👍

I've loved every second of this journey, top work Simon, another one saved from the scrap heap

Fantastic videos, came here because i have just bought a project RD400 but will be staying as I like your style of video

Very good series of videos though, really enjoyed them.

Good series well done.  I hope you find another 2 stroke to carry out a refurb' as there are too few on YouTube

That plastic POS will always leak.  Make a 1/16 " flat plate traced from the oem part .  Toss the spring and ball and use allen screws with yamabond 4 or 6 and the leak is fixed !

Had the same thing happen to my 1977 RD400 with regards to a leaky neutral cover. Put some sealant around it ... sorted !

That was a great resto series, watched them all almost back to back. How I'd love an honest RD like that, to use & abuse, that isn't an overpriced show pony. As long as I could get some good quality modern tyres for it.......

That neutral switch looks a prime candidate for new 3D printed ABS part. You just need to find a suitable genius with CAD and a printer. Should be a bit smoother now you have the full rubber mounting of the engine with the exhausts.  Good luck I hope the owner enjoys all your efforts.

That plastic part was definitely over-tightened, which caused it to crack and leak oil.

Hi Simon, thanks for taking the time to make these videos. I’ve had my 1976 RD 400 for about six months, thankfully it’s in a lot better condition than the one you were working on!  Many of the things I’m going to be tackling you covered so it’s great to get a bit of a ‘heads up’. I have read elsewhere you need a special tool to put down the fork leg to undo a nut, I saw you putting something down there, what is it? Replacing the fork seals and fork oil is coming up on my list. Cheers, Al

An easy fix for the neutral switch leak, in to make a paper gasket by tracing the cover on a piece of cereal box.  Spray paint both sides, and mount it up.  No leaks.

Bad idea not putting in 10 w 30

Hi Simon loved watching this.
Just out of interest roughly how much did you spend on the restoration in parts, oil and other work done

A T F in Gearbox Or 2 Stroke Gearbox oil.

That's a later engine e/f

Sounded a bit crackly when Rich was riding, did it still have 250 carbs ?

Great to see the RD400 being rescued and put back on the road. I had a X Reg RD350LC. What I would give to have that bike now... 🖤❤️🤎
