I saw a review on Letterbox that has stuck with since. "A heartbreaking rejection of the typical ideas of a coming-of-age movie. Owen will not enter the wardrobe, he will not follow the white rabbit, he will not go to the Pink Opaque. He will collapse inside himself and decay." For us though THERE IS STILL TIME

“There is still time” even if you’re on your death bed, to live life as your true self even for a day is still so much better than never living at all

Currently, this movie is free on YouTube with ads. Not the ideal way to watch it, but the more people that see it, the better.

I'll admit, I totally missed the core metaphor/symbolism at the heart of this story the first time I watched it - but after I realized what it was really about, it hit me like a sledgehammer to the chest.

"There is still time" is such a beautiful, universal message. This is a wonderfully thought-provoking film with such deep messaging.

As someone who's both queer and neurodivergent, that's the lens through which I viewed this movie. The main character's struggle with fitting in, social situations, eye contact, their identity and anxiety was all too relatable. The ending felt like they were not only trapped in their body, but stuck masking (autistic masking) forever. That's how you know you've got great writing on your hands--when people can relate to and see themselves in the characters, even enough so to bring them to tears. So glad you guys reacted to this!

Hi, I'm non binary and GOD i love this movie, at first I was incredibly confused by it but as the movie went on I just realized how much of the fear and pain about myself and how I view my life was been represented in a way I had never seen in my life. I feel so seen with this movie, it's about life, love and acceptance which is so dificult to find nowadays.  Love your videos btw

Shout out to Justice Smith, who kicks ass in everything he’s in ❤❤

We stan a queer icon.

I don’t know why but the exchange of
“What’s opaque mean?”
“Opaque is like not see through.”
Is the most reasonable yet vulnerable question and succinct answer I’ve ever heard.

Made the mistake of watching this on the plane back from Tokyo. Trying to keep it together at the end was... a challenge. Such an amazing movie.

Around 1:04:30 yall mention the use of green, and I just wanted to chime in and say: along with green specifically being used to represent gender dysphoria in this movie, green lighting in film is often used to signal that something is unnatural, off, or artificial. Green lighting doesn’t really occur naturally so when you see it in film, it necessarily means that someone altered the light, and a lot of filmmakers extend that concept out and use green lighting to emphasize a feeling of wrongness. The office in Fight Club is green, Neo’s world inside the matrix is green, and when Judy Barton transforms into Madeline Elster in Vertigo, her room lights up with a neon green. I think Schoenbaum’s use of green in this movie is doing something similar bc a subtle, all-encompassing presence of something wrong is exactly how gender dysphoria feels. Everything in this movie is trying to make the audience feel the suffocation of dysphoria, it’s really an incredible accomplishment of filmmaking in general and trans art in specific.

Thank you for reacting to this. It doesn't get nearly enough love.

I was… still Owen when I first saw this, so it was like someone made an entire movie specifically to call me out.

So many people reject this film because they don't understand that horror depicted in the film is the horror of being trapped in the closet. The cishets struggle to find a frame of reference, and can't grab onto anything.

Anyway, as a Gen X trans girl, I can't help but compare it to The Matrix. The green representing oppression is there, as well.

To this day, ISTTG is one of the most terrifying films I've ever seen. It truly takes the transness of body horror in the past and flips it on its head. Not "what if you mutilate yourself in the pursuit of a false promise?" but the far worse question: "what if you don't? What does it look like if you refuse to do the brave, scary part and you have to stay like this and suffocate forever?" The dread, pain, and chilling moments stay with me to this day. I've never seen a nonqueer person (and even cis queer ppl don't always get this bit) actually be affected so viscerally by lines like "Isn't that a show for girls?" or "I never saw Maddie again." It is perhaps a perfectly trans movie in that so, so many nontrans people simply do not understand the text itself, which is sad but poignant I guess. Not really sure where I'm going with this 😂 But my Pink Opaque was Supernatural, and this movie made me feel seen in a way that was both a comfort and a threat. 10/10 movie, and i will have nightmares forever about what if i hadn't come out or transitioned...😅

im so glad y’all have seen the entire buffyverse before watching this it rlly adds to the whole experience i think

"Is this movie gonna make me cry?" absolutely.

You two are just the perfect duo for this movie, I'm so happy I saw your reaction. The way you picked up and theorized on the metaphors and symbolism, so good.

I'm a trans woman whose egg cracked in my late 30s and this movie really speaks to my experience. It's hard to watch when Tara is talking about suffocating, about having to bury herself to become herself, and it matches Isobel's experience exactly, but Isobel still rejects it. That was me so many times in the 2010s, reading trans people talking about their experiences, and thinking "oh hey, I've had that exact feeling, but I can't ever talk about it because I'm trans and it would be appropriative." And meanwhile deep down inside suffocating and wanting to scream "help me!" Until finally one day I cracked open and found that beautiful, powerful woman inside.

It really is never too late. I was 38. I've had clients transition in their 50s, 60s, 70s. Sure, the best time might have been decades ago, but the second best time is now.

My favorite little detail that the "real world" isn't real: Tara is reading the episode guide at the beginning of the movie. The one that has entries for episodes that didn't air until 2 years later.

Loved this reaction. You guys picked up on so much subtext! Any queer person, or person in general, who has a strong connection to TV shows/ media should watch this. Or for that matter, anyone who feels stuck in their own life. It felt so, so personal for me. Part escape, part identity, part connection. It's funny how media that appears corny can be so deep and profound for us for these reasons. THERE IS STILL TIME!

16:47 this is one of my favorite shots of the whole movie!! Owen moving forward, but still staying in one place within the frame as the camera is moving along with them. He thinks he’s living his life but in reality he’s stuck in one spot. It’s so simple but says so much
