Please watch the movie!  Puts a lot of these songs into perspective!

NOBODY IS EVER THE SAME PERSON AFTER THUS ALBUM/MOVIE

You asked "Why a "dirty" woman?" and partly it's a callback to "Mother" with its line "Mamma's gonna check out all your girlfriends for you / Mamma won't let anyone dirty get through." So the search for a "dirty" woman is both a desperate act to fill the void and an act of rebellion against his overprotective mother.

Pink Floyd was truly on another level, ahead of all time.

The movie is a must see. Gives even more perspective.

"Goodbye Cruel World" shows up one of the drawbacks of streaming.  When the album came out, it was on two vinyl records, and this track was at the end of the first disc.  So you got "goodbye" and the record stopped.  You had to get up and change the record.   I think it was much more impactful, but now it just flows straight into the first track of the second disc.

"There must have been a door there in the wall, where I came in." - Is one of my favourite lines in the whole album. The idea that you can build your own mental prison brick by brick and not even realise that you are trapping yourself until it is too late.

You need to remember that this is written through Roger Waters eyes growing up in ww2 London

Dad deploying and dying in WW2, the mean teachers at school, the mom overprotecting due to her own fears, the toxic relationship/marriage were all bricks in the wall he built up around himself until he became so secluded and alone which become another brick in itself, the bricks were all traumatic moments and memories in his life…this album/movie is a masterpiece and it was written  primarily by the band's bassist and lyricist, Roger Waters. Waters conceived the album's concept and wrote the lyrics for almost all the songs, He composed the majority of the album's massive 26-track rock opera

Listening to Floyd if like a free therapy session.

Animals is another great Pink Floyd album

Fun fact - The album is circular, it cuts off at the end where the beginning starts.

The very fact that you question are you helping to build a wall indicates that you are a mindful and thoughtful parent.  Here, specifically, the character's mother is overprotective and overbearing probably from already losing her husband in the war.  This why she answers the question "Should I build the Wall" with "Of course Mama's gonna help build the Wall".  We can't avoid letting children build the walls that keep them safe.  The importance is in giving them the tools to build the exits so they can leave when it's time.

I'm 85 years old, a retired lawyer, who bought this album when it was 1st released in the U.S., for my son. I put it on my turntable, put on my earphones, and listened to it  all twice. I then got up at 2 in the morning and listened to it again.  I finally gave him the album 5 months ago.  I had made a cassette to play in my car and on my tape player.  It is in pristine condition.   It is still my favorite peace of music.  David Gilmore is now 80, and performs occasionally.  I hope he outlives me, he is to valuable alive.

side note: i highly recommend watching the movie The Wall. It really adds so much to every song!! great vid :)

My man! I think you’re the first reactor I’ve ever seen that figured out the album on the first track. Bravo!

I was just getting ready to go to bed and had left my laptop on and clicked just to see what came up new and this came up. I'm way too excited to not stay up and watch this since this is my absolute favorite album ever and I love your reactions. Good thing I can sleep in tomorrow lol

Also, I highly suggest watching the movie. It will help you understand better.

Some clues to help you:
The Wall is considered a rock opera, as is Bohemian Rhapsody so it's not surprising you see parallels to Queen.
The main character is a man named Pink Floyd. His father died in WWII when he was an infant. This caused his mother to become overprotective.
He became a rock star as an adult.
If you listen to the transition between "Young Lust" and "One of My Turns" you hear a phone operator trying to connect a call from "Mr. Floyd" to "Mrs. Floyd" and a man keeps answering and hanging up. The girl that Pink takes to his room is a groupie.
Also, Vera Lynn was a famous English singer during WWII and one her popular songs (there's a video where she sang it to the troops) is "We'll Meet Again." Part of the lyrics are: "We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when, but I know we'll meet again some sunny day.
As Pink continues to decline mentally, it goes to extreme when he envisions himself as a fascist dictator until he comes to a realization that changes everything.

In the movie the judge is a giant ass with legs walking backwards with a old school judge wig on.....its BRILLIANT

Your question to who else cared about how their music sounded, who were perfectionists? "YES" is my answer.

You have to remember these guys are British. Their metaphor are most about ww2. That's why you hear prop fighter planes dropping bombs. Vietnam didn't hit them as hard as it did in America. But their parents were literally bombed during the blitz.
