Source: Το Γνώθι Σαυτόν (Know Thyself) — St. Nektarios of Aegina

In this profound teaching, St. Nektarios speaks about the power of hope in God and the spiritual danger of despair and despondency. He presents hope as an anchor for the suffering soul, a source of courage in trials, and a path that turns the heart toward God and eternal life.

He also describes the inner condition of the person who abandons hope: the darkness of the soul, the loss of consolation, and the temptation to believe that there is no way forward. Against this darkness, St. Nektarios points the soul back toward faith in God's mercy, providence, and love.
