'frites atelier' is the furthest away from belgian fries.

I highly approve of the honesty in the recording pattern

Wow I live in Ghent this is a surprise! (I don't actually live in Ghent I just couldn't think of something to comment)

I live in the Netherlands and would love to tell you about the difference between Flemish and Dutch!
Unfortunately I moved here from Newcastle and don’t speak a word of either.

Ghent is beautiful, historic and spotlessly clean. I was on a cycle tour and went to Blaarmeersen, a campsite just outside town. €35 a night the facilities were rubbish and the staff horribly rude. I felt cheated and was about to leave town. Sitting in town later I got chatting with someone and told him about the campsite. He invited me to stay at his pad. He was a musician, had a rehearsal room and a studio flat, full of instruments. He didn't live there, it was a rehearsal space. Let me crash there for a week (Ghent music festival was that week). Daytime I took off. Evenings he'd come round, we'd smoke weed and play chess. Last night I was there few of his buddies showed up, had a jam session. Pretty good. Filmed it, it's on my YouTube channel, Wim and the boys jamming out. Historic, touristic, expensive, but the real people there are fucking brilliant.

That fancy fries place isn't what I'd call authentic fries-shop. There's a place just across the square that is tiny and crappy looking (in the old building that is being renovated now), but very authentic. I used to go there a lot when I went to school in Ghent. I'd say that for authentic fries form Belgium, you gotta eat the classic meat snacks with them never just fries (all leftover slaughter stuff mashed into shapes really.) I'm vegan so I go to neither now, (there's some good fries-shops with big vegan range too if anyone is interested), but anyway I hope the fries (chips) where yummy though! <3

Yeah Flemish is just Dutch (like English & Scottish) with its own accent, sayings, word use - kinda just like different dialects exist within Flanders or Netherlands (or UK or wherever). People might say it's different, but in basics it's the exact same grammar and vocab by "rules", (proof: there used to be a like a Dutch dictate - spelling test - championship kinda thing and it's a joined Netherland + Flanders thing) but I don't care too much about correct spellling.

Love Ghent. x  (I live here now)

Hi robbie just letting you (and Becky)  know i love any video even when it is raining,  the pub is closed,  and all you have left to discuss is cheese 🧀

Ahh Robbie (and Becky),
You've got it all wrong about the frites! You have to go to a frituur, not the place you went to. And you have to taste it with the special snacks they have there!

If you are in Ghent next time, I really want to show you around!

Also: there are so many better bars as the Dulle Griet!

How does this channel not have 1M subs? Totally underrated.

Ghent is AMAZING! Every where you look is a gorgeous building with loads of character, on a canal. And if you like vintage anything, there are loads of decently priced shops of vintage clothes and vinyl and stuff like that… also so many lovely quirky cafes, pubs and restaurants

Oh so Becky made it this time. Well done :goodvibes:

This is the kind of content the world needs

"there's a lot of residual stress from the pub being shut yesterday"

OMG I live in Ghent!🤯I hope you still somewhat enjoyed your trip, despite the bad luck... If you ever visit again you should go to 'Joost Arijs', it's an amazing chocolate/patisserie shop☺ Btw we do speak Flemish and it's like Dutch, just a different accent😉 So in theory all Dutch people (from the Netherlands) and Flemish people understand eachother, but there are regional dialects that can be more difficult to understand😄

Robbie, seems like you’re the Perfect Ghentleman ❤😊😊😊😊

Good to see Becky found her passport.

Cheese isn't gone off milk, it's just milk which has had rennet added to it to turn it into curds and whey, then the curds have the whey squeezed out and you're left with cheese, that's the basics anyway, then you can eat those fresh soft curds as soft cheese or press it firmer and store it for longer which turns it into hard cheese. Junket used to be a popular dessert in the UK up until the mid 80's which was just flavoured curds and whey, you'd buy a tube of flavoured rennet tablets in the shop and dissolve them in milk, I used to love it when I was a nipper.

I loved staying in Ghent. A real treat and the weather was much better.

What's Belgium famous for? Beer, chips and chocolate!
Love your channel especially Beckie!
