Emma and Andrew were dating at that time, and I gotta say not only this adds way more to their character relationship dynamic, but somehow it made their relationship look 50x more believable than the ones from the Raimi movies with Tobey and Kirsten.

The noise on the roof that made Peter look around was supposed to be his "Spider sense". The Tokyo reference is about Godzilla.

In the comics, Peter had different love interests at different times, Gwen was before MJ.  In the movies, I prefer Gwen, since she's very capable (possibly smarter than Peter) and not just a pretty girl.

Looking forward to your reaction to "Amazing Spider Man 2", and then the Tom Holland series.  Each actor has a different spin on Peter / Spidey, and they all have things they do better than the others.

I preferred Maguire's Spider-Man for the longest time, but I've come to understand that it was mainly because he was my "first." Now, I can confidently say Garfield is my favorite. 🙂🕸

38:36 when he references the “Lizard in Tokyo” he’s referring to Godzilla.

Uncle Ben's death is a major part of Spiderman lore.

One really cool detail you can see is that Conners has 5 fingers on both hands initially, but after his Lizard transformation, 2 of his right hand's newly-grown fingers fuse together! So the Lizard actually has 5 on his left and 4 on his right through the whole movie.

29:22 "Ooh! The police chief . . . is her father?" Remember in the Maguire/Dunst films when there was a crane accident at a skyscraper photoshoot and Spider-Man saved one of the models -- a blonde who was also his classmate and lab partner? That was Gwen Stacy! And there was that unscrupulous new photographer on the ground talking to the police chief about dating his daughter? A police chief, just like here.

Remember Peter's professor in the Maguire/Dunst films? The one who Peter went to for advice on the black goo? His name was Dr. Connors, too! He was that franchise's version of the same Dr. Connors who became a giant lizard here.

Sure, writers could come up with a different way to get Peter where he needs to be, and some have as well, but for the most part uncle Bens death is Spider-Mans origin story, so most people dont usually change that, they just adapt it in different ways
Like in the Sam Raimi trilogy the death happened after Peter goes to the wrestling match and his inaction causes it
And in this movie it was aftet a fight where Peter runs off and uncle Ben follows him

But there have been times where writers do change his origin a bit, it definitely doesnt happen often though cause like I mentioned, that's Spider-Mans origin story

She cried during the kid in the falling car scene. I'm excited to see her reaction to someone falling again 😭

Tokyo is referring to Godzilla, which is a movie franchise of a giant lizard created by Japan. Assuming Godzilla attacks Tokyo in the movies. Either way, it's a japan made movie frachise.

55:42 Air is 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen, so liquid nitrogen is essentially liquified oxygen-less air. The important thing, though, is that it's very cold: Its boiling point is minus 196 degrees Celsius!

Spider-man had multiple love interests. I remember in the old cartoon, he hooked up with MJ, Gwenn... and maybe more.

Flash in the TASM Movies was the best-written Flash Thompson, in my opinion 🍿🔥

38:50 I see a lot of lizards in town believe me, and yes they often hide in rocks or sewers

9:52 "Don't touch stuff!" Yep! Very good rule when you're in a lab you're unfamiliar with. Oh well! 😆

You should be asking why in the Raimi trilogy we didn't get Gwen till the 3rd movie and, no offense to the actress, why she wasn't awesome. In the comics, Peter doesn't meet MJ till college, I believe.

Just in case you’re interested in hearing some behind the scenes facts with this film:
Firstly, Sony Pictures had this contract with Marvel that allowed them film rights to Spider-Man characters as long as they produce a new movie every five years.

Previously, a fourth movie of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man with Tobey Maguire was in production, but due to creative differences stemming from some behind the scenes drama with Spider-Man 3, Raimi left the project and Sony decided to reboot the franchise with a new iteration of the character.

Not only did they get new actors (i.e. Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man), they also got a new director, Marc Webb, who before did music videos and made his directorial debut with “(500) Days of Summer.” That said, they did bring back one of the writers who worked on the previous movies, Alvin Sargent.

Another cool thing about this movie is that some of the swinging scenes, especially that one on the bridge, was done with actual stunt performers instead of CGI. Garfield even did some of his own stunts in the movie, which made the experience feel more real.

When the film first came out, reactions were mixed, especially from those who were fans of the Raimi Trilogy and were super mad that Spider-Man 4 was cancelled. Nowadays, it’s looked upon more fondly due to it standing out from the previous movies and having its own identity. Same can’t be said for its sequel however, which I will explain a bit more when we get there.

5:24 "Is that a piece of meat on his face?" Yes, it's an old fashioned remedy that doctors recommend against these days, mostly due to the risk of infection -- and waste of a good steak! Essentially it's a convenient way to apply cold to a new bruise, but a bag of frozen peas or a modern malleable ice pack is better.
