DDC Raiko's Theme: Primordial Beat ~ Pristine Beat

This is Raiko Horikawa's theme from Touhou 14: Double Dealing Character

Holy crap, a thunder god! ... wait, it's just a plain old taiko drum.
I didn't really like Raiko's theme at first, but it's really grown on me. Especially the part that plays at 1:13, and that drum solo... s'pretty cool for a not-so-vengeful drum youkai.

ZUN really said "Ah I know how much you hate curvy lasers, so I added curvy lightning instead!"

"Raiko Horikawa's theme.

I wanted to make the song feature drums prominently, but
in the end I just didn't have the courage. In terms of the game's image.
The drums play a main part for a short interlude section of the song.
As a side note, her shoes are probably made so she can swing her feet
to hit the bass drum." - ZUN, 2013

Raiko has a surprisingly modern appearance: a skirt, tie, and jacket covering a collared shirt are a fashion that suggests a very active, independent lifestyle; one that is expected of a Youkai wielding octagonal drums. It is a stark contrast from the dresses and nightgowns worn by most characters in the series. Joyous, and yet energetically rebellious. I like it. I like it a lot.

it's all fun and games until she makes your heart follow a 29/16 beat at 957.9 bpm

Fun Fact:
Raiko, along with the Tsukumos, despite formerly being old instruments, they are newborn youkais, meaning they are the youngest youkai yet created by ZUN.

That rare moment in a Touhou song where the only thing you hear is percussion.

People keep talking about how Raiko looks like a colorswap of Yuuka, but when you look at her character - her personality is kind of in opposition to Yuuka as well.

Also... one's an ancient youkai of nature, the other's a newborn youkai of a man-made object...

I bet ZUN had a lot of fun making this theme.

It's weird seeing a Touhou without a hat, horns, bow, ears, glasses, or other head accessory.

Raiko is life.
Raiko is love.
Raiko is Taiko.

It's a shame that Raiko isn't as popular as some of the others. She has the most creative fight by far out of all of the Extra bosses, and the conversation she has with Marisa is pretty funny.

Oh, well...some people don't know quality when they see it, I guess.

rose are red, cherry plum

is this girl, a sexy taiko drum?

This might just be the best song in any of the Touhou Project games, not just from an artistic standpoint, but also from the standpoint of how it ties into the character it represents. Raiko is literally a deity of thunder and drums, hence why this song places so much emphasis on the percussion sections. Not only is the drum solo awesome, the build-up to it is also phenomenal. In short, ZUN is a musical and artistic genius, and this song is arguably his finest work overall.
