I understand plunging prices, but once competition is driven down, I fear prices will explode like cable TV. At first it was $18 a month and no commercials.

Once users are completely dependent on a AI for their daily work, education, or communication, the companies holding the keys gain massive pricing power.

Arrgh this ‘oh how will people find meaning without work’ position is so frustrating. A tiny portion of people ONLY find meaning from work and to assume this will be a problem is so reductive. Most people have plenty of meaning and work is about allowing them to pay for stuff - that’s most people - having time to spend with loved ones, doing hobbies, learning new things is much more meaningful than work. Most people would be absolutely fine without having to slave away at boring jobs to pay their bills. Thats not the issue we should be worrying about. The issue is distribution of wealth and resources to the many rather than the few. If we can sort that out, most people will be absolutely fine. I’m pretty doubtful we will sort that out though because wealth never voluntarily shares and if they exert the kind of power over capital and resources that is likely to happen, a few, pathologically greedy people are going to decide most people don’t deserve to be looked after if they are not ‘contributing enough’.

The darkest problem isn’t whether AI makes work optional. It’s whether the people who own the machines decide that everyone else has become economically unnecessary. Elias Velin’s book makes this distinction brutally clear: abundance does not automatically create freedom when control of the productive system remains concentrated. If intelligence, labor, and eventually physical production become automated while ownership stays narrow, the real crisis won’t be technological. It’ll be who still has leverage when human labor stops being needed.

People worried about jobs is hilarious. It's the age of Terminator folks. Robots with superhuman capabilities. Guns won't stop them. Either accidental or intentional bad command, and one rogue superhuman robot will make mass shootings look like a family picnic. And nobody is sounding the alarm. Sad state of affairs.

Getting really sick and tired of being told "Just start your own business" as though everyone just innately has the natural abilities and desires to do that with their life. I'd rather be broke and shoveling dirt into ditches than be an entrepreneur.

I was out of the country in SE Asia for 7 months. I just got back to USA now there are Tesla self driving taxis in Tampa and a friend in Dallas is getting Walmart drone deliveries to his backyard. I was only gone for 7 months 😇.

Re: self driving taxis in Florida ambulance chaser attorneys are on every billboard throughout Florida. Amazing Tampa even got self driving taxis through the attorney lobby barrier to start and continue business.

One correction for the guest, AI doesn't use a lot of water on site, but the enormous amount of energy it requires and generating that energy does use much more water.
