Abulqasem Alidoost: Jurisprudence can deny things like slavery in the present era, but this is a product of jurisprudence's own capacity, not something that was imposed on jurisprudence. One speaks of the primacy of reason over Sharia, and the other speaks of the primacy of Sharia over reason. This duality has caused a deviation in the perception of many people, while reason and tradition may contradict each other, but reason and Sharia do not contradict each other.
Abdul Karim Soroush: Under the influence of reason and modern custom, jurists have been forced to reconsider many of their opinions, such as the permissibility of slavery, and they will probably reconsider matters such as hijab in the future. Therefore, such changes cannot be considered a product of jurisprudence. Modern reason is based on a new anthropology and contradicts jurisprudence that is based on reason and anthropology of the past.

Abdolkarim Soroush (Hossein Haj Farajollah Dabbagh) is an Iranian writer, translator, and philosopher born in Tehran in 1945. He has taught as a researcher and visiting professor at Princeton, Yale, Harvard, and Amsterdam universities, and has presented topics in Islamic studies and Rumi studies. In 2004, he received the Erasmus Prize along with two other thinkers, and in 2005, he was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine.
Soroush first studied pharmacy at Tehran University of Medical Sciences and then studied analytical chemistry and philosophy of science at the University of London. He calls his theories "new theology" and considers his theological doctrine to be neo-Mu'tazilite. He has also been active in Persian literature, and is particularly known for his study of Rumi and his revision of the Masnavi Manavi based on the Konya version.
In the 1980s, Soroush was a supporter of the Islamic Republic and joined the Cultural Revolution Headquarters; although he has always denied any involvement in the dismissal of professors and students and has considered the headquarters' responsibility to reopen universities. However, from the 1990s onwards, he was banned from teaching and his lectures were attacked because of his criticisms. He then immigrated to the United States and, during the 2009 elections, published letters that sharply criticized the Islamic Republic.
By emphasizing his new interpretation of Islam, Soroush provoked opposition from some clerics, and in 2009, Foreign Policy magazine named him the seventh most popular intellectual in the world.
Born in 1961 in Abarkooh, Abolghasem Alidoost is an Islamic jurist and jurist who teaches jurisprudence and principles at the seminary. He is the head of the Islamic Jurisprudence and Law Think Tank of the Iranian Islamic Model of Progress and a member of the seminary’s community of teachers. He began his seminary education at a young age and benefited from prominent professors such as Mohammad Fazel Lankarani, Javad Tabrizi, Jafar Sobhani, and Hossein Vahid Khorasani.
Alidoost studied philosophy with professors such as Javadi Amoli, Hassanzadeh Amoli, and Mesbah Yazdi, and began teaching seminary courses in 1983. He has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in jurisprudence, principles, and interpretation of the Quran, and has been teaching philosophy of jurisprudence in the field since 2010.
