Just an FYI: Your information on how phone phreaking worked wasn't exactly correct.  When you called 1-800 numbers, the local exchange would use the same long-distance trunk lines as regular long-distance calls, but it would note that it was a toll-free number, and thus you wouldn't be charged.  So what a phone phreaker would do is dial a 1-800 number, and once the call connected, then they would blow the whistle or play a 2600 hertz tone.  This would make the long-distance trunk think the line was free to accept another call, but the local exchange still thinks you're on the toll-free call.  You could then dial any long-distance number, and it would connect your call for free.  However, simply starting a regular long-distance call and then emitting the 2600 hertz tone would actually just end the long-distance call.

I once got a scammer to apologize. They called me with some ransomware thing on my pc. Thing is, I don’t have one. I was honest but embellished being too poor to afford one. The guy was like, “Sorry…” and hung up.

To answer your hoodie:
No

10:20 that was one of the most creative sponsor bits ive ever seen on youtube

I wonder if the person that exposed phone phreaking to the telephone companies was a whistleblower.

Your ancient music references are not lost on me president squid. Great video

11:16 A few months ago I was almost scammed on YouTube, someone had used a content creators name and profile picture then left a reply to one of my comments on the original creators video. They said I won a giveaway and to contact them using a strange app. I was excited at first and even downloaded the app, but something told me to double check things. That's when I learned it was a new account with no followers or videos, so I contacted the official channel letting them know what was happening. They made a post warning about the scam and someone replied saying they had sent their ID and bank account, please be careful especially with how advanced AI is these days. AI can literally make someone say something they didn't. Much respect

Probably the earliest scam (which was more of a prank) that I remember seeing was an e-mail that appeared to be from my ISP. It told me that, due to the influx of new worldwide users, their system had to be cleaned, or something like that, and therefore asked all users to not go onto the internet on [insert some date in 1995/1996 that was a week or so after the date the e-mail was sent].  The Internet was new to me, but computers were not, so I knew it was a bit silly. But every time I think about that, I still wonder how many people avoided their computers that day.

That whistle thing finally makes that scene in “The Core” makes sense when the dude blew into the phone with a bubble gum wrapper and said they got free service for life. (I know i could have googled it but it hasnt been a priority since i first saw the movie back in 2006ish)

The biggest scams were chain emails where you had to forward emails to so many people to get your crush to notice you...never worked!!

The Elderly are frequent targets of scams as they make the scammers think that the elderly are not tech savvy and will easily fall for a scam

Seen alot of ads for Mint. Your use of Black and white with old time clips. GREAT EDITING!

The Nigerian Prince is Eddie Murphy.

I've been getting the same spam calls about a $60K loan everyday for about the same amount of time... my favorite part of every day :(

The Wall references are killing it
