Another great video! I can only imagine how America seemed to Elder Ephraim after having lived on the Holy Mountain.
It reminded me of a travel book by an American author named Henry Miller. He traveled across the country from New York to California and then described what he saw as an ‘Air-Conditioned Nightmare’. Consider that this was the America that he saw in 1945!
Incidentally, just a few years earlier in 1940, Miller traveled to Greece and wrote a travel book afterwards. This one was called ‘The Colossus of Maroussi’ and has a completely different tone from ‘Air-Conditioned Nightmare’. Miller traveled from Corfu to Crete and later said that, “The light of Greece opened my eyes.”
