Hey guys!

Anybody want a COMPLETE Star Wars rewatch before we dive into the sequels? Idk if Aaron would love or hate me for that... lol. At this point in time, I've completely finished The Clone Wars, Rebels, and ALMOST The Bad Batch! All available now on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/alexhefner
Soon I'll be starting The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, and a bunch of other Star Wars shows!!

Let me know what you guys want! I feel like I would be seeing all of these movies again for the first time with all of this newfound knowledge and understanding. Either way, thank you all so much for all the love and support you show me over here on this channel!

I absolutely love the community we've formed, and Star Wars is a BIG part of that <3

You guys are awesome! Don't forget that!

I hate seeing how plo koon and kit fisto died. They’re two of the chillest and kind Jedi characters in the series

When this & AOTC first came out, a lot of people criticized Hayden Christensen's acting... but when you REALLY pay attention, he's using almost the exact same cadence & inflection as James Earl Jones did when voicing Vader. Fucking genius.

32:47 In the novelisation for RotS when Anakin is talking to Padme 3po asks R2 what happened at the temple and he says “I don’t know, Anakin doesn’t talk to me anymore.”

Absolutely heartbreaking

There is a deleted scene where Obi-Wan tells Padme that he knows about her marriage with Anakin, but kept it quiet due to his love for Anakin.

30:34 So fun fact, during this scene here Hayden Christensen actually yelled "Boo!" to the kid to make him step back and look more scared. If I recall that was not in the original script but he wanted it to be a bit more authentic

26:36 Cinema Wins explains this really well. Up until now Anakin is constantly questioning his faith in the jedi, but he's spent so many years committed to the jedi and the code that that's the one thing that's holding his faith together. Windu told him "[Palpatine]'s too dangerous to be left alive" which is exactly the same thing that Palpatine, who they now know is the sith lord, told him about Dooku. As soon as he says this Anakin's whole faith in the jedi code breaks down because such a highly regarded jedi master is willing to make the same call as the sith, and he realises that the jedi order is so flawed that there really is little difference between the jedi and the sith. The only key difference now is that one is telling him to ignore his feelings and love, and essentially let his wife die, and the other is providing him a way to save her. In that moment he chose to save Padmé.

6:49 is literally every SW fans watching Episode 3 for the 1000th time lol

A cool hint in Episode 3 is Anakain's line when picking up Obi Wan. He says "his fate will be the same as ours", ours being Anakin, Palpatine and Obi Wan.

They all 3 die fighting Vader and all 3 die on a Death Star.

I really like that little nod, even tho it's often missed.

32:39 R2 followed Anakins orders and stayed with the ship. He never does that again. Every time Luke tells him to stay with the ship, he ignores that order and follows Luke.

Now Alex knows the pain of being a Star Wars fan. Every time you watch this movie you have hope that Anakin will choose another path. But every time you have to watch him break your heart again.

46:23 To answer that Alex, the suit Palpatine put Anakin in is essentially a shock collar for a dog. It’s uncomfortable, always causes Anakin extreme pain, it’s bulky and heavy, and it’s very susceptible to lightning (aka the Force Lightning Palpatine shoots from his hands). It’s why when Vader actually turned on Palpatine, in Return of the Jedi, Vader succumbs to his crippled body after Palpatine shocks him with Force Lightning. The lightning can short-circuit Vader’s suit and life-support systems.

32:40 Funny you should ask that, because in that very scene, Anakin tells R2 to stay with the ship, and he never came back, so throughout the whole Original Trilogy, he never stays with the ship when Luke tells him to.

For the people asking “where’s season 7?”

I think the intelligent answer is that he’s putting this out saying he’s watching it before he watches the final 4 episodes of clone wars.

That way, when the s7 video drops, we’ll have the context of this video alongside him as we finish out that series.

So, I’d say s7 video very soon.

35:44 you can see Anakin cry right here

This is the Star Wars movie that probably benefits most from a rewatch, the animated material did wonders for this one

24:18 So yes Anakin did tell them the truth but Mace could also sense his feelings. He knows Anakin wasn’t sure about who to trust, the counsel or Palpatine. So he knew that if he brought him there was a chance he could be manipulated like he was when he went. which is something he didn’t want to risk.

In the beginning when Anakin kills Dooku, Palpatine says "He is too dangerous to be kept alive." which is what Windu says about Palpatine later. From Anakin's perspective it must look like nobody (not even the highest ranking member) cares about the jedi code and their values, might as well pick the side of the person that cares about you, trusts you, encourages you and promises you to keep your happy life with your wife and kids. (Which obviously turned out to be a "bad call")

I remember reading somewhere (and I don’t know if this is Disney canon or not) but that in order for a Jedi to become a Master the typical way, they must see their Padawan thru to knighthood.

Obviously Ahsoka got screwed by the council, and Anakin blames them for her leaving the Order. So then when they say he can’t become a master when he sees it as their fault just makes him even more mad.

Also take into consideration that Anakin’s progression thru the Order’s ranks was anything but typical by this point; he was accepted as a Padawan far older than normally allowed, was a prodigy, was knighted without passing the Trials normally… etc. so then when he wasn’t given another “exception” when he felt he actually deserved one, he gets really mad.

The Clone Wars truly adds so much to the prequels. Glad you rewatched this movie!

From Anakin’s point of view, his choices in Revenge of the Sith almost make sense, even if they’re wrong. After killing Dooku, he’s ashamed, he knows he crossed a line. When he begs Mace not to kill the Chancellor, he’s pleading with a mentor who never trusted him: “You’re supposed to be better than me. Show me the Jedi are still noble.”

But when Mace moves to strike Palpatine, Anakin sees it as hypocrisy. The Jedi Council, already distant, now feel no different from him. He feels “homeless in the Force,” alienated and ashamed, with only Padmé left. Palpatine offers a way to save her, and in Anakin’s mind, the dark side becomes the only path forward.

Of course, he’s wrong. Mace wasn’t corrupt, and the Jedi weren’t like him. His choice wasn’t redemption, it was fear and selfish attachment dressed as logic. But seeing it from his perspective explains why he could convince himself that doing the wrong thing was the only way to protect what he loved. That’s the tragedy.
