Three of the most beloved animated shows of the 1980s get the unhinged deep-dive they actually deserve. The World of David the Gnome β a Spanish cartoon based on a Dutch field guide, narrated by Christopher Plummer and voiced by Mr. C from Happy Days β ran on Nick Jr. for seven years and then quietly ended with the two main characters walking into the mountains and turning into trees. For children. On a Tuesday morning. Adventures of the Gummi Bears was the entire Disney Afternoon before the Disney Afternoon existed: born because Disney CEO Michael Eisner watched his kid eat candy, built by a creative team who thought he'd lost his mind, and staffed by a voice cast so legendary it's genuinely embarrassing. And The Wuzzles β launched on the exact same day as Gummi Bears, on a competing network, by the same company β lasted thirteen episodes, ended when its beloved voice actor died, and left behind a collection of escaped mascot costumes that have since turned up in Will Ferrell movies.
In this episode of Fever Dream Nostalgia we cover all of it: Tom Bosley as a 399-year-old gnome (before he was Mr. Belding's wife's neighbor, he was a fox-riding gnome doctor). The voice of Garfield, the voice of Tigger, AND the inventor of an artificial heart β all in the same cartoon. Bill Scott as Bullwinkle, Gruffi Gummi, and Moosel simultaneously on two different networks. Why The Wuzzles destroyed the UK in the best way. And the greatest unsolved mystery of 80s pop culture: where are all the Wuzzle costumes, and who is letting them be in movies.
This one is funny. It's also going to make you feel things. That's the deal.
