DJ Kenny Parker - I was there that night. First of all, before all that even unfolded, from my recollection, Mel kept challenging anyone on the mic to battle him for $500, not a G. When he was on stage, he spat “King Of the Streets” acapella but actually was booed because (1) he did interrupt KRS, who had performed “South Bronx” and “The Bridge Is Over”, and (2) that song was played out because it came out in winter ‘85-‘86. Mel was standing on stage when Kris performed “Poetry”. The part of that song came where Kris rapped “cuz you I’m like the arrow, and Scott is the crossbow/ say something now”, Kris looked at Mel, then ethered him with  “thought so”. The Quarter went BANANAZZ!! Then Scott calls out Roxanne Shanté in the crowd, then Kris did a whole freestyle on her “Why You Diss Me So Bad” (from that Club Nouveau “Why You Treat Me So Bad). The Quarter had LOST IT!! I honestly can’t remember what he said because it was clearly a freestyle the audience never heard before, plus my brain was just blown by his showmanship. Kris threw down his G on the floor before  Mel and was about to battle for the crown, but the MC cut it off stating that it would go down next week as you correctly stated. I was so mad at him because that would definitely have been one of the greatest moments in all Hip-Hop to this day!! Very sad that Scott La Rock would be  killed a very short time after all this went down. R.I.P.

It truly was an event I’ll never forget!

Great story.. Much Love + Respect to both Melle, who was YEARS ahead of his time and KRS, who has remained relevant for 35 years, something basically unheard of in any genre.. Legendary MCs who deserve to be mentioned on any list of the GOAT

I love the way Dj Kenny Parker tells stories. He's clear and eloquent...FULL of details!

KRS JUST SPOKE ON THIS IN LIVERPOOL 11/14/2022..

I really enjoy listening to these stories.

See how he still gives respect to his elders.

Keep em coming Kenny. Us real hip hop fans need these stories

Keep the stories coming brother. I'm 37 years old and really grew up on the 90s era but I was aware of the pioneers b4 that era so to hear these stories made me go back and realize how great you guys were and also that there would be no 90s era without you guys. Peace

Much respect brother. I’m a 25 year old  blind DJ and I grew up  listening to all of you guys. Red Alert is a great friend of mine. I was just hanging with him about two days ago. Next time I speak to him I’m gonna ask him his recollection of the story. But nonetheless great story though my guy.

RIP scott la rock

While Mel is adamant that it was all in KRS’s head, he conveniently forgets to mention that he and Scorpio dissed KRS/BDP on a track from his “Piano” album, “Revenge.” (And the cuts on the diss track were performed by DJ Kid Capri, no less).

🎉Godspeed #DJ:Kenny, Parker#B.D.P. had mad trunks rattling, in Ca. L.A. #1❤Kings&Queens!

I'm so honored to be in Kenny's presence right now! And I'm so proud that SOMEBODY is telling the REAL truth about that true hip-hop culture historical day in 87'!! Regardless what the analysis say, the legendary KRS1 and the legendary Melle Mel are icons!! 🙏🏽👊🏽📿

Sounds like they both had valid recollection. I think I remember KRS saying Melly wanted all the smoke and even put money up for any challenger, so he stepped to Melle, dissed him, the crowd was going crazy, then when Melle went people started booing...so he'd just beat Melle in a battle. Melle said a lotta what KRS said happened, but they never actually got to battle...so KRS is buggin. Kenny just clarified and actually confirmed both stories.

Your stories are the greatest !!! THEY ALL NEED TO BE ANIMATED CARTOONS !!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤

thanks for clearing up that up because KRS lied to us all

The Keny Parker Show!

Yo Kenny, your stories are as good as the late Charlie Murphy. RIP. I can’t wait to read your book.👍🏾

See? This is the Hip Hop shit I was raised on. Not that criminal background propaganda Vlad likes to focus on. Just the actual art. He's still here. There really should be an exclusive tribute for BDP and KRS One's contribution to Hip Hop.

DJ Kenny,  these stories capture the  legacy of the culture. Sharing these ensures that all future heads know what this about and where it all came from. You were not only an innovator of this art form and culture, but also a first hand witness.  I thank you for keeping this living history alive by your videos.  I also commend you for your respect to Grandmaster flash and the furious five mc's in this particular tale. We dont disgrace those that came first.  Your grace and poise show me you are a perfect ambassador on this mission.  These stories inspire me to keep making my beats and laying down my flows.  I thank you for that sincerely.
