No original amp sounds? I don't know what the original sounds like. Thanks.

The question is, which sounds closer to the amp. What does the real amp sound like?

You should also record your amp with the loop and compare the waveforms. Would be pretty interesting to see. For science.

The head rush sounds like a much higher fidelity signal to me, it looks like that too. The Stadium and the Tonex sounded much fizzier. It was clear as day to my ears.

Hey Dude,

I think the issue here is input calibration settings. Two things to consider.... Currently headrush is not adjusting for the input calibration on nam A2 captures even when that info is in the meta data. For example, on Tone3000 my captures will sound dirtier because my input calibration is +8db. Nam on headrush is automatically padded 8db for me. They need to address this as there is no standard on input level that is correct. But, Steve at NAM already solved this issue by adding the input calibration field and most NAM plugins auto calibrate based on that field. The other thing to consider is that to get that calibration setting you need to measure your setup and see how loud the output signal is being sent to the amp for NAM. What this sound like to me is similar to what I experience if I don't push my headrush captures up to +8 and am comparing to the actual amp.... you're basically hitting the nam capture with a lower signal. The result is a cleaner sound but also the difference you are seeing in the wave form is a cleaner input, thus it's more dynamic. Those spikes are the lack natural compression from the amp overdriving. I would boost the namm capture to until it sounds as dirty as the other two and I'm guessing that level would be +6--+8 db.

What's interesting about your test is that even with NAM being cleaner, you can hear at time that the tonex and nam captures are more similar in EQ especially bottom end, compared to the proxy which seems to shelve some bottom end.

Edit: I am typing this while watching and now you are changing the input of the nam capture.

I did a similar test myself with my Orange AD30 using nam and Tonex. There was a small difference initially (smaller than yours) with NAM being a bit closer to the original but both were so close it didn’t really matter. Made me glad I’d already invested in Tonex and dont really need to buy something new 👍

For Nam, I had the gain issue with my captures last week, I even tried turning up the re-amp signal almost clipping it.

Great comparison! I love my ToneX. It would be nice to have an all in one unit vs my ToneX HX FX combo.

It matters because you can take the NAM A2 with you to any other hardware. Othewise, they all sound great.

Loved the video. All units sound just great. As an ampero stomp ll user I would just like to see content on those units. Love mines, amp sim, soundclones and NAM just sound great to me and also the effects will really surprise you. Hope you can get your hands on any of them in the near future (ampero stomp ll/ampero mini/ampero stage/ampero ll). Cheers!

Instead of upgrading to Stadium, I bought a Tonex Anniversary to add into the mix with my legacy Helix.  Tonex is a pain in the ass as far as workflow compared to Helix, but it's also a lot easier to get to the bottom line.  The two of them combined are gold.

Ah he levelled out the volumes afterwards, good!

Appreciate all the thought that went into making sure you're comparing apples to apples.  A loop pedal was the right way to go.  Next time though if you're going to make 3 captures of 2 different settings you should probably capture all 3 at one setting, then the other 3 so you're not messing with knobs in-between.  Even if you have a picture of the settings those knobs were moved.

I like effort and level of professionalism that went into the video. I dont really want yoy to compare it to an amp. Plenty of videos have compared tone3000 to tube amps.

You can raise up the clip gain to match waveforms

I have a Hotone Jogg. It plays Genome, Helix Native, Sonulab, Mod Desktop, Every NAM they Make, Bias X, also… others Like XSonic or Oranges OMEC,Teisco Interface, Sonoma Wire works Stage, Positive Grid Riff! Audio Interface people, Own the World! It’s Yours!

The real takeaway should be to use what you have and focus on the music.   And if you’re currently shopping then look more at features and workflow because right now all the amp captures and models sound good. Crappy digital sounds are a thing of the past.

Check input settings on the HR patch..has to be setup for each guitar as some are hotter than others…

This video would've been PERFECT if only we could also hear the original sound straight from the amp, but other than that superbe work! I'm more and more happy about my Helix...as you said, workflow is great and, IMHO models are better than captures if you want to go straight to playing without wasting time  browsing and downloading captures just to try it out and understand something's missing.
Thank you for the video!

Use what fits for your needs. I personally doing fine with Tonex when I don`t use a real amp, it is very close in feel and that`s enough for me. The sound should be effective and nothing else matters. By the way, my favorite amp simulation device is still the Tech 21 RK5 V2 flyrig. I use it mostly with an amp, but sounds good direct too, especially in connection with a Tonex.
