I’ve just discovered this content. I’m an old school American mx/sx fan and I wasn’t aware that there was a full blown championship series staged to crown the champion mx’r of Great Britain. I’m thoroughly enjoying these publications and relish seeing the sons of John banks and Dave nicol out there carrying on the family tradition. In my day, the golden era , early 70”s through the early 80s the ama staged 125,250 and open class championship series. In between the sx series was contested when it became a thing, mid to late 70’s. The FIM 500cc USGP ran at carlsbad every summer and a 125cc and 250cc GP happened in Ohio and unadilla. Most American riders stayed stateside with the exception of Brad lackey and Jim pomeroy. The USA fielded teams for the mx and Throphy des nations but traditionally weren’t competitive until they ran off their incredible streak of wins in the 80’s. Now and again a yank would contest a GP with moderate success but they didn’t start winning them until the early 80’s. Thanks to the content provider. Very enjoyable..
I wasnt even 1 when this was taking place but I went to plenty of races here. Loved this place. Pretty sure in the 90's there was a big downhill tabletop jump. The long ass straight at the top of the track was unforgettable too!
Freakin' awesome track. My brother and Iwere there spectating that day, stood on the up side of the jump where Banks threw it away. Never racalled it being Televised. Twenty eight years ago... Sheeeeshhh!!! There's a short film here on youtube,
Hatherton Motocross Circuit Today
somebody posted of the track as it was up to a few years ago. I even commented a year ago about Thorpe and Banks! Thanks for posting Staffihound.
I miss this track, was a great place to race, they said they wanted to make a road race track and closed it down, I think it was a excuse so they could tip in the valley and coin it in! Never did make the track
Hey Staffi, did you used to race in any of these GP's or an avid GPMX fan? I love these videos from back in the day/beginning of advanced suspension systems technologies, thanks so much...
