We love our HDG plan. Less than $50 a month with less than $20 for doctor visits. While plan G is $240. Do the Math! PS The higher G premium goes up exponentially more each year than HDG.
HDG is actually a MOP not a typical deductible. Remember Medicare reduces the amount and then pays 80% Regardless!

You can, if you are relatively healthy. In South Florida Plan G HD cost $180/month for 2. Regular Plan G would have cost $ 510/month for 2. Even at 10 major surgeries in next 18 years (i am 68, wife is 72) HD is still better.

Note the part B deductible counts unless you hit the HDG total with part A first.

Wait!  You only  showed part of the total analysis. You ignored the huge savings  for a customer in premiums of HD-G vs. G. In my case, starting in 2027, my HD-G premium will be just $41 per month vs. a G premium of $270 per month. Even in a worst case scenario involving an infinite number of hospital stays as well as an infinite number of doctor vists, my maximum annual pocket expenses (HD-G premiums plus the HD-G annual deductible of $2950) will be LESS than the G premiums plus the annual $283 part B deductible. Easy peasy math. By the way, the HD-G premium of $41 mentioned above is from N.C. BCBS and the G plan premium would be with AARP/UHC the plan I'm planning to leave on 12/31/26 after they raised the monthly premium by 35%.  I would never want to be trapped in a regular G plan for the rest of my life. The annual premium increases of G so far have been multiple times greater than HD-G. Show me where I'm wrong.

The difference seems to get much larger after 80 based on the Humana rates in their charts. When the difference hits $220 or more (2026) you are guaranteed to be ahead.

If you have an HSA you can use the dollars for copays and deductibles but you can't use it on any of the Supplement plan expenses. In addition, the out of pocket "deductible" first go through original medicare which pays 80% of the medicare approved fee for that service. Haven't done the math but you've got to have expenses of $15,000 before you reach the high deductible. limit. If both programs go up 10% per year the high deductible the dollars go up exponentially for the larger number, but I actually believe the % increases are also higher in plan G versus the high deductible plan.

Regard the two versions of G and Plan N: Does the California birthday rule allow switching from Plan N to HDG ? I've seen conflicting information but the assumption I have is that someone who chooses N is stuck there unless they want to go to one of the very stripped down letters. I've also read that you can't go from HDG to N either.

Hi Kevin .Would a HDG work close to a G plan with hospital indemnity? . Afraid of the future premium cost of the G or N plans. Leaning towards HDG or advantage with indemnity come Dec will be 65
