so basically, the navarre witch trials are a wild story about how a royal commissioner completely weaponized an entire community using fear. he went into these isolated mountain villages hunting heretics and used two young sisters, who were only 9 and 11, as his main weapon because they claimed they could see the "devil's mark" right in people's eyes. what makes it so interesting and unique is the crazy plot twist at the end. the panic got so chaotic and out of hand that the actual spanish inquisition(which is usually known for being incredibly brutal) had to step in as the voice of reason. they were completely appalled by the local hysteria and the fact that everyone was listening to children, so they took over the trials in 1526 and created new legal guidelines to stop reckless witchcraft prosecutions. it is just a crazy, fact-based blend of true crime and supernatural folklore that shows how easily people can manipulate a crowd!!
