Vince and Brunzell didn't get along very well, but the story goes that he congratulated Jim when he came back from this match. Savage apparently liked it a lot as well.
Jim Brunzell is a former 2x NWA Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion and a tag team champion with Greg Gagne in the AWA. This match would have been a BIG deal 10yrs earlier. He was too good to be a jobber. What a dropkick, maybe the best ever.
I think it is a disservice to place a former 80s superstar (not main eventer, but still major wrestler) as "and already in the ring". Even with 20 years of wrestling, he still looks pretty good. You tell the fans that this will be a boring squash match instead of "interesting" and secondly, Matcho Man is already over, no need to do more. Make this a credible match, and then make Macho Man win decicively "at the end". That happened in this match, but still, the "already in the ring" bit really not good. Bravo to both wrestlers for showing up McMahon.
