Nargis was lured to Haryana with promises of a better future. Her husband paid less than $400 for her. Jameela continues to struggle with the effects of violence, exploitation, and social exclusion.
Her story reflects the experiences of thousands of women brought from poorer regions of India to Haryana, where they live as Paros, or "bought brides." United States had invented the ultrasound to monitor the growth and physical development of the fetus. People of Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and possibly some other states used this ultrasound/sonography machine to detect female fetus so that they could terminate it to prevent the female childbirth. This practice is known as female foeticide. This was done in a scale so large that the Indian government had to implement country-wide law that bans sex determination before birth using ultrasound machines.
It's good to report but with careful intent.
Thanks
