Karen Bass joins The Jason Lee Show for the first time, sitting down with Jason for a candid conversation about leading Los Angeles through crisis, political pressure, and a pivotal election.
The 43rd mayor of Los Angeles opens up about the demands of public office, the toll of being on call around the clock, and what it means to be seen as “the mayor” before being seen as a person. She and Jason talk about how little many people know about local government—and why residents often blame the mayor for problems outside the city’s control.
Bass reflects on the devastating fires, the city’s response, and the work still ahead for families trying to rebuild. She discusses homelessness, housing, affordability, public safety, and the strain on emergency services, along with the steps her administration says it has taken to speed up rebuilding and expand housing.
The conversation also turns to national politics and the role of local leaders as tensions rise. Bass shares her views on the deployment of military forces in Los Angeles, the protests, and the importance of organizing when she believes people’s rights are under threat.
Jason presses her on the future of Los Angeles: keeping entertainment jobs in the city, making the most of major events like the Olympics, and what she hopes to accomplish in another term. Bass also addresses her challenger and makes her case for why voters should look at a candidate’s record.
From personal stories and political clashes to fires, housing, and the city’s next chapter, Karen Bass gives Jason an inside look at the pressures and responsibilities of leading Los Angeles.
