I did not expect this cat to react so badly to a stickbug 😂

2 more fun facts about Wojtek:

1.) Wojtek actually found a spy (what had happened is that the soldiers were informed about Wojtek being a bear, so when the spy snuck in, he of course didn't know and screamed when he ran into him, giving himself away)

2.) not only did he smoke, but he also ate the cigarette (and he could tell if it was lit or not, if it wasn't he would spit it out)

If it makes anyone feel any better the last Secretary Bird clip wasn't a real snake, it's just a stuffed toy.

The literal genuine fear in her voice when she saw that stick bug. Homie, you good?

"Why do we like stuff that's toxic?" Ask plenty of folks in relationships...

Fun fact about Wojtek: they didn’t train him to carry ammunition and artillery shells. He saw the troops doing it for so long that he followed their example during the battle, and given his size and strength, could carry what would take four men to carry at once.

Wojtek survived the war and happily retired to a zoo in Edinburgh, where he lived for twenty years until he died peacefully in the early 1960s. At the zoo members of his former unit would regularly visit him, and he would respond to Polish, dance to the Polish National Anthem, and eat the lit cigarettes they tossed him. The veterans would anger zookeepers by jumping into his enclosure to wrestle with him and spend time with him.

There are statues of him in Edinburgh and in a few cities in Poland whose names I don’t remember. The main questions to ask at this point is:

1. Why has no one made a movie about him. This sounds like something Disney would have made an animated movie about by now.
2. Can someone do a mod in Call of Duty that makes the care package be delivered by Wojtek, or any mod featuring this absolute unit.

Edit: A Scottish-Polish animated movie called “A bear named Wojtek” was released in 2023; it won four academy awards.

You know the funniest thing to me is Australia has the deadliest spiders in the world, the deadliest snakes, the deadliest sea creatures and is treated as this incredibly dangerous place and yet still manages to have one of the highest average human lifespans at roughly 82 to 84 years depending on the study you use.

Eucalyptus is safe to inhale, but it isn't safe to eat. Basically the same logic as febreeze.

44:13 scary fact about the cone snail: there is no antivenom because the chemical mix of the neurotoxin is completely unique to every cone snail that exists, as in one cone snail has a completely different mix of neurotoxins than every other cone snail that exists and so on!

You do NOT want a pet koala, they’re loud and mean with really sharp claws. There’s a story I heard of people trying to steal a koala from a zoo; they ended up taking a crocodile instead because it was honestly safer.

11:55 why would you want to eat the endangered bird?

The secretary bird kills snakes by continuously kicking its head until the head literally breaks apart. Those same kicks can easily break human hand bones in one hit.

If it gives wombats extra cute points, they poop building blocks. Seriously, it's cubes.

People always get confused between venom and poison. Easy way to remember, if it kills you by getting into your blood, it’s venom. Anything else is poison. People can in fact drink venom, and not die, unless you have a gastric ulcer which provides direct access to the bloodstream, in which case it’s death.

When I was a kid, I used to get creeped out by bugs too. But what helped conquer my fear was actually learning more about them and learning which ones were harmless and which ones weren’t. Once you can tell the difference, then you start to control your fear.

Imagine being spawncamped on this hardcore PVE server by top ranked snake 💀

25:28 Yep, not only more, NEARLY TWICE the hippo bite force

Birds are actually smart enough to avoid venom glands. It's how magpies figured out to deal with cane toads

"Which arm?"

The spider: since when you're the one to decide that?

Nako secretly a koala

About Wojtek, he already found an enemy in his camp before the battle. What happened was, while they were still in the desert, he went to the shower tent because he LOVED taking long showers and he got banned from taking them because there wasn’t any water left for the others, and an enemy spy actually decided to infiltrate the camp via the shower tent. Let’s just say, that guy had the most terrifying moment of his life right there because of Wojtek. And Wojtek actually pounced on him, but it was a play pounce because he thought it was a member of his regiment. Results: Free info for the Polish and Wojtek was now officially authorized to take long showers.

Wojtek also basically believed that he was human, that’s why they put him in his personal enclosure in a Zoo in the UK… where the Polish veterans would come with his treats, jump the fence and play with him.

Also, even though the alcohol and cigarettes were DEFINITELY not good for his stomach, he actually managed to live a full life dying at 21, iirc, which is the life expectancy of a Syrian brown bear.

Also, you want to see a guy with the confidence to wrestle an ADULT Brown Bear? The singer of Slaughter To Prevail does it… and he literally screams like a bear.😂
