Summary
Produced by: Eigasha
Planned by: Osaka Prefecture/Osaka City, Kyoto Prefecture/Kyoto City, Hyogo Prefecture/Kobe City. Selected by the National Museum of Science and Technology
1961, Color, 33 minutes
Row after row of houses, some leaning under the weight of stagnant lifestyles, without repairs for 50 or 100 years. With the development of industry, tenement houses and cheaply constructed homes sprang up around factories, leaving only those with low incomes behind, turning them into slums.
Also known as "doya-gai," slum areas. However, the people who live in these areas are also well-intentioned people who wish for happiness and strive to live a better life. The slums hinder these efforts and the development of the area. The camera moves through the slums.
