Sealing the wood of a gunstock is one of the most important steps in stock finishing. In this GunTec presentation Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO of MidwayUSA, teaches the technique for applying a sealer to the wood. Using the sealer provided in the Miles Gilbert stock finishing kit and an acid brush, this process takes only a few minutes to complete.

I wish it was more into detail, it's like a stereotypical art video: "first, draw the body" *pans into next seen fully drawn* " now draw the rest"

there is just something cool about lumber on a gun. Maybe it dates me. But it belongs there to me.

I think his "Wood $ealer" is Boiled Linseed Oil it is what I use and how I use it! I just keep painting it on every day till she starts getting thick or tackey or not? put on a last coat and wipe her off. Done BEUTIFUL just like the old days. Polishes up Nice! then with some carnauba wax after oil is very good and dry. FREE used the same oil and wax my whole life.

I believe walnut is the favorite.

wilson 1592 maple is much harder than walnut BUT!!! sometimes the straight grain and lighter color aren't as much preferred as walnut,,unless you find some curly maple.
