Well, it seems they have given us reason to return to the Catskill Mountains! The Catskills Fire Tower Challenge has added two more towers for 2026. While we had already officially completed the challenge last year, we have decided we will keep hiking to and climbing every fire tower they throw at us!

Bramley Mountain Fire Tower is one of the newly added towers to the challenge. This tower has quite a history behind it. Originally built in 1950, it was used to monitor fires through 1970 and ultimately sold to a local farmer in 1975. The farmer deconstructed the tower and moved all the pieces to his property where he intended to reconstruct it. He kept meticulous notes during the disassembly process in order to know how to properly put it back together. All good intentions aside, the tower just never got rebuilt. After sitting in pieces on the farm for decades, the farmer's son offered to donate it back if it could be put back on top of Bramley Mountain. Friends of Bramley Fire Tower led the crusade to bring the tower back to life on the mountain top. Community members donated money and with volunteers donating their time, the tower once again stood atop Bramley Mountain.

We were looking for a special hike to present to you, our loyal viewers, as a "Thank You" for helping us reach 4,000 watch hours here on YouTube. This fire tower hike seemed like it would fit the bill perfectly!

The Catskills Fire Tower Challenge is an annual event sponsored by the New York Department of Environmental Conservation. Located about 120 miles north of New York City, there are eight fire towers spread across several mountain tops. You have the calendar year to visit all eight of the fire towers and receive a neat little patch commemorating your accomplishment. There are other prizes and incentives, and you can find all the challenge details at the link provided below.
