I'm from Manly. Keep in mind that prior to the 2025 fatality we hadn't had an attack in decades on the northern beaches. Drones now spot sharks constantly. Sometimes I think I'd rather not know.

Sitting out the back in South west WA wearing a hood and ear plugs, turned around and there is 50 guys standing on the beach watching me. I didn’t hear the shark alarm going off and they all paddled in, found out later there was a 5 metre great white swimming around

Live in Sydney, surf 4+ days a week. The new measures have increased the beach closures and shark alarms but if it's your time there is nothing a measure will do.

RIP Todd Gendle...my old next door neighbour and mate that I used to surf with. He went there on a surf trip from Qld...never made it home.

I am from California and mostly surfed Northern and Central coast,. I have to say as I get older and drones are capturing more footage of heavy shark presence in places I have been getting in the water since the late 80s it weirdly makes me feel better. Their presence has always been this abstract fear but seeing concrete proof that they aren't just there but have always been there puts the odds into perspective. It also feels like it confirms that spook you sometimes catch out of nowhere. Those times? they were probably lurking. One place you should check out is Recife in Brazil. The number of attacks are crazy. There is a 12 mile stretch that accounts for over half of all shark attacks in South America. I couldn't get info on how many were on surfers compared to swimmers and divers, but it sounded like its the vast majority.

West Coast South Australia is really sharky. Used to surf granites when I was younger ,  couldn’t pay me to surf it now. The surf break called Blacks is even Sharkier.

Won't go near Salmon Creek. Could count on more than two hands how many horror stories I've heard around there.

So many sightings this summer in Bodega. Not even Sharktober yet.

10:30 I grew up surfing and was born in Florida in 1968. I regularly surfed a couple spots in Florida that definitely had a healthy shark presence such as New Smyrna beach. Saw more sharks than I can remember but the only physical encounter I had was getting literally knocked up in the air off my 6'8" Linden pintail while surfing a dawn patrol with a couple friends at a rivermouth/jetty between Sanibel and Captiva Island called Blind Pass. My friend Paul was about 30 feet behind me and he saw the sharks head and upper body as it hit me from beneath. He said it was at least 16-18 feet long and definitely big enough to have eaten me in a bite or two. All I saw was a massive dorsal fin and tail fin swimming away. I retrieved my board and paddled in. I've never felt so small and insignificant in my life. Anyways....that's all for now. Surf Beach, north of Vandenburg Air Force Base where they launch Starlink rockets, two fatalities within 2 years. Nobody surfs there anymore.

My first big shark hotspot experience was surfing southpoint in Yallingup in the mid-80s. Drove south with parents from Perth one Friday after school, fairly windy, went out on my own and had a eerie sense of foreboding, luckily it was too big and I got pinned on the reef, and decided to skip it, but there was a heavy energy that afternoon and I've learned that if you have a strong sense of something not being right; heed it.  

Then I moved to Byron Bay and used to surf Tallows beach south of the Cape where Marty Ford was taken by a big white in the early 80s; there had also been a mass mating event there at that time with big sharks beaching themselves in a reproductive frenzy, and I personally had seen many sharks there. So one afternoon after school I was out there with 20 other surfers, grabbed a wave and as I got up I looked down to see a three to four meter mother with young trailing it. So I went inside and waited for 5/10 mins and as nothing happened, I went back out. You might think I was callous not making a fuss, but it just didn't seem the thing to do at that age in that place; I had no sense of fear or foreboding it was simply the reality that sharks were there; you only came in if there was an attack.

I had a similar eerie experience to the south point one about 15 years ago; bodysurfing by myself one morning at Tugun on the Gold Coast (500m south of the surf club) it was an overcast day and I was out at the first sandbank about 50 meters out and became aware of a strong sense of something not being right. In the midst of this sensation a westpac helicopter turns up and stops about 60 meters further out and hovers for 30 seconds in one spot and descends up and down. I came in instantly and strongly suspect the presence of a hungry shark. Always listen to your intuition; something was definitely warning me to get out.

No 'Blacks/Blackfellas' (South Oz). Bit of an oversight. Arguably the spookiest paddle-out (across the deep, black inner lagoon) and line-up in Australia - amazing wave and heavy, but the Men in Grey Suits is a major factor in keeping the crowd factor low. Watched a feature recently that was focused on Elliston (and Blacks).

New Smyrna Beach, FL is the shark bite capital of the world, averaging between 5-10 shark bites per year. Luckily, they're generally small sharks like blacktips and spinners, so injuries are generally the kind one can heal from in a few months

Back in the 70's,we were on the north side of Ballina rivermouth and noticed south side had a wave...A local fisho said to us"Wouldn't be thinking about paddling across there boys!!"..."Bit sharky!!"...Obviously we didn't take the risk,and listened to the fisho

I think a couple that could make this list are
1. Surf Beach, California: two fatal attacks within two years, almost to the day. Isolated so rarely surfed to begin with, now no one bothers.
2. Morro Bay/Los Osos, California: multiple fatalities and attacks, tons of "encounters".

I grew up right next to Manresa State Beach Campground, miles of empty beach and ocean in southern Santa Cruz County. I couldn't even estimate how many times I saw sharks. And I shudder to think how many I DIDN'T see. Thankfully I was never attacked, because I would've been dead if so. Usually there wasn't anyone else around for miles, no lifeguards, no beachgoers, no one.

West coast South Australia

I grew up in Perth, surfing Margaret River a lot and have lived on the Northern Beaches for the past 10 years, unfortunately sharks seem to be a part of my surfing life, especially the last 2 years in Manly. I can say that in all my surf trips nothing has been more spooky than South Oz down Elliston way! but the only big shark I have seen was at Wharton Beach Esperance, mid 90s, and thankfully we got out in time.
