The Gospels do not tell us where the Blessed Virgin Mary was born, but two Jerusalem traditions place Mary’s beginning near the Lion’s Gate, close to the Temple Mount. This video visits both the Orthodox birthplace of Mary, deep beneath Jerusalem in ancient cave chambers, and the Catholic tradition at the Crusader Church of St. Anne. Only a few yards apart, these two very different holy places preserve the same memory: the birth of Mary, daughter of Joachim and Anne, and mother of our Lord Jesus Christ.
