The aorta is the blood vessel that pumps blood from the heart throughout the body. If the aorta, often called the "highway of the human body," ruptures, the mortality rate is a staggering 95%. Consequently, for patients visiting the aortic emergency room, every second counts as their life depends on it. To treat these patients, medical staff keep their 24-hour hotline open, waiting for emergency cases. As it is a critical emergency, surgery is performed within 30 minutes of arrival at the hospital. These are medical professionals who do not hesitate to perform emergency surgeries day or night to save patients. They are the medical staff of the Aortic Emergency Surgery Team, a department classified as a "3D job" (dirty, dangerous, and difficult) within the hospital. Driven solely by a passion to save patients and a sense of duty to save dying ones, the medical team of the Aortic Emergency Surgery Team devotes themselves to emergency surgery. Their emergency surgery has begun.
Part 1
At 10 PM on Sunday night, an ambulance glides into the hospital. With the patient's abdomen visibly bulging, he is a critical emergency patient on the verge of an abdominal aortic rupture. If the aorta ruptures, the patient's life cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, as soon as the patient arrives, the aortic emergency surgery team—comprising a thoracic surgeon, a resident, specialized thoracic surgery nurses, surgical nurses, and anesthesiologists—prepare for the surgery in perfect coordination.
Professor Song Seok-won, who eventually moved in front of the hospital after spending over 18 hours a day on continuous emergency surgeries, and Dr. Kim Tae-won, a thoracic surgery resident who considers it fortunate to get even two or three hours of sleep a day. The 24 hours of the aortic emergency surgery team, where tension cannot be let down for even a moment.
The resident assisting with the emergency surgery throws off his surgical scrubs and runs toward the emergency room. With another patient being transported, can they handle the consecutive surgeries?
Part 2
With consecutive emergency surgeries, the aortic emergency surgery team's operations finally concluded past midnight. The lead surgeon, exhausted after spending the entire day working on a surgery without a single proper meal. The resident, unable to sleep even after the operation is over, shuttling between the ICU and the doctors' lounge all night. And other emergency patients in need of their help.
The 24 hours of the medical staff on the Aortic Emergency Surgery Team, where vigilance cannot be relaxed for even a moment. They give up their holidays and face a continuous series of grueling emergency surgeries every day, yet they take extraordinary pride in it. Saving the lives of those placed in emergency situations!! They stand on the front lines of saving lives.
