The writer of a direct-to-video sequel to a mid tier Disney cartoon is criticizing the writing of Maya Angelou. Hilarious

The whole "literature courses require you learn theory but not shakespeare" is like "chemistry courses require you to learn about atomic structure and reactions but not about baking soda volcanos"

Imagine reading a monologue that so clearly and eloquently describes the hell that is living with depression and getting "trans people bad" out of it. That has got to be the biggest square peg trying to cram into the smallest round hole I've ever seen!

How dare they replace a photo of Shakespeare! Someone might never have heard of him before.

"Like illiterates talking to you about Shakespeare..."

Wait till Dennis hears about most of Shakespeare's contemporary audience.

They had to say "a white european male" because they can't call him straight without lying, but still won't acknowledge it outright.

I feel like the reveal of "this guy wrote Pocahontas 2: Journey to a New World" is enough of a dunk to render any other argument unnecessary. Like, you won

Oh the bitter, bitter irony of the question "who killed the liberal arts?" being asked by conservatives, the very people who have been trying to kill them for decades

Comparing Hamlet's play-wthin-a-play to the Euphoria "wait is this fucking play about us" bit had me wheezing
It's so nice to hear your intelligent thoughts again.

here are some ways he could have referred to ms lorde without using her name and without so obviously being a fudging racist:
"a modern poet"
"a playwright of less long-term significance"
"a writer from the 30s"

but he didn't. because the point was the fudging racism.

My favorite movie as a kid was a new hope, and the most racist bully in my class' favorite movie was also Star wars. For a long time I thought he saw himself as Darth Vader and sided with the emperor. But no, when I finally heard him talk about star wars he clearly saw himself as Luke Skywalker and the rebels. People are dumb, don't let them ruin shit for you

Columbus telling those kids that Slavery wasn't that bad is really really ghoulish.

Gotta love how Prager and his ilk bemoan how youth squander their dollars on non-vocational degrees, especially in the liberal arts, but also care deeply about the liberal arts when non-Western literature is taught.

They were talking about Hamlet's monolog, and I'm sitting here thinking. "Wow. It almost sounds his father recently died, and he is having a difficult time processing the grief." I say this as someone whose father recently died and is have a difficult time processing the grief.

16:12 "Depression means consciously understanding there is good in the world, that there is beauty in the world, but being unable to feel it" This hit me like a weight.
