As a Maximumalist Backpacker I love to pack and carry more Gear than you could ever imagine , and thanks to Dan I'm gonna add Linesman Pliers .

Mine is an old pants leg with worn knee. Ends sewn, folded in half, strap sewn on.

In 1991 during "desert storm" many of us adapted map style cases to carry daily items. Great video!

I carry a haversack in the woods as well. It’s a great hunting companion. Instead of a pad though I carry a folded tarp and tent stakes for a shelter if needed. The important thing is to personalize your haversack for yourself and where you are.

Great video. Here in Brazil haversacks are traditional at the countryside. They could be doubled, for practical uses, too, where they would be used balanced on both sides of a saddle. I have one and find it very comfortable to wear. :)

For what it's worth brother Dan, we appreciate everything you do. Your videos, history lessons, knowledge, gear, and sense of humor. Long time fan.
  Stayin' in the woods

Haversacks are my obsession. I keep an unflavored, waxed dental floss dispenser in mine to use for sewing repair. Stronger than thread. I have made so many for friends and relatives over the years.

Growing up, my dad (Nam vet who grew up in the backwoods and worked a lot as a cross- country trucker) had a "camping bag" he made from a WWII surplus gas mask bag. Had an old Boy Scout flint and steel set in it, a cheap hunting knife, matches, and so on. It's been lost over the years, but it was already in bad shape and starting to fall apart. Last week, i found a gas mask bag that i think is the same style he had used, so i bought it and am going to rebuild him his "camping bag" as a gift. He still travels cross- country for work at the age of 80, so I know whatever i hand him had better be ready to work!

I love my haversack for carrying tools around the woodlot or when I want to go light on the trails. Humans have a habit of filling empty spaces and that includes their backpacks, so the haversack keeps overpacking in check.

My dad used to call them
Your possible bag it carried everything you could possibly need. Great video

I’ve been using a haversack since around 2000 or so. I use an old 1995 pattern British army gas mask bag, and it’s perfect for holding the basics, even if it is a little big and thus is able to be overloaded.

An Army surplus 2 1/2 ton will carry a lot of good stuff too.

I have only watched a few of your videos.  This is the first time that I noticed you presenting the goal having fun.

I have struggled to develop a day pack for excursions from my base camp while backpacking.  Too heavy and bulky or too flimsy.

A haversack may be just the ticket to carry my core survival item that would get me thru getting lost or the violation of my base.

The goals are to 1. Have fun. 2 do good stuff. 3 not piss anyone off by accident

A little more cushion for the pushin’ was the phrase you were thinking of at 5:40, but was also very much not the phrase you meant 😂

I had one from rotchco I waxed myself. I got rid of it recently. I've been regearing for the winter months and getting rid of stuff because more stuff gets more wet. I like that little awl with antler bone.

Love the history lesson and gear mindset. I'm 5'10" so I put the end of the bankline under my foot and pull the spoil as high as I can and call it 7', I do that 4 or 5 times for 30ish feet ez pull hanks and carry 3 or 4 of em.

I think it's neat how it perfectly compliments your outfit and matches your shoes .😂😂😂

As long as it matches your shoes 😊

the moment i heard haversack i thought of the dutch XD due to haver meaning oats, makes sense now

Everybody loves gear. 🙌
