Princeton has become one of the fastest-growing places in North Texas, but the houses haven't been the only thing growing. Buyers and homeowners are dealing with crowded roads, water concerns, schools needing to absorb more students and city services trying to keep pace with thousands of new residents.

So why does Princeton keep building so many houses when the roads are already crowded? How many more homes are coming? And what happens when a Dallas suburb grows faster than its roads, water, schools, police and fire services can handle?

In this video, I share the story of a viewer who bought in Princeton expecting the roads, stores and infrastructure to eventually catch up with the new neighborhoods around him. What happened next led me into a much bigger story involving Princeton's explosive growth, the city's attempt to slow new development, Texas lawmakers and the homebuilding industry.

But this isn't simply a warning about Princeton real estate.

There is a reason financially smart buyers continue choosing new construction in fast-growing Dallas suburbs. Builder mortgage incentives can create an enormous monthly-payment advantage over a preowned home, and newer communities can offer new schools, modern floorplans and amenities that are difficult to find in established neighborhoods.

That creates a much harder question: Are those advantages worth buying into a city that may still be trying to catch up?

We’ll compare buying new construction in an expanding North Texas suburb with buying a preowned home in an established Dallas-area community, including what you should investigate before making that decision.
