The Supreme Court has refused to suspend Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations that several SIR-related decisions were taken without the approval of the other two Election Commissioners. The court has, however, sought records of the decisions under challenge and issued notices to the Centre, Election Commission, CEC Gyanesh Kumar and other officials. During the hearing, the court also questioned the controversy surrounding the modified Form 6 and clarified that it had not approved any such modified form. The bench said that disagreement among Election Commissioners does not automatically make a decision illegal, as the law allows decisions by majority. Further hearings will follow.
