Can estrogen cream really make your face look younger? In this video I break down the growing trend of using estrogen cream on facial skin, including the important differences between estradiol and estriol, what happens to skin as estrogen signaling declines during menopause, and what the clinical studies actually show about wrinkles, hydration, elasticity and collagen.
We’ll look at vaginal estrogen cream versus compounded facial estriol, estrogen receptor alpha vs beta, the concentrations used in published studies, and why formulation and dose matter. I also discuss systemic absorption, the finding of increased prolactin in one study, melasma and pigmentation concerns, and who should speak with their physician before considering topical estrogen for the face.
Facial estrogen for skin aging is an off-label use in the United States, and estriol is not an FDA-approved drug in the U.S. This video is educational and is not a substitute for individualized medical care.
