Privacy is another reason to choose Linux over Windows, especially with all the telemetry and user data collection that Windows currently does.

My 10 year old computer still runs great, and I was anoyed that I would have to get rid of it because it was not Widows 11 compliant. Installed mint today, and I'm thrilled that that headache is gone. My PC runs even better.

The key difference is that you are an user when you are using windows. On gnu/linux, you are the owner of your os.

No forced updates, unexpected background updates, or time-consuming installation updates (especially when you shut down your PC at 1am before bed)

30 years using Liunux here, from Red Hat (With RPM packages that have no idea about what does mean dependences) to Debian (still on 12), running almost all other distros in this meantime. I'm Windows user as well. The main "difference" for Windows Users that will move to Linux may be the drivers for hardware, mainly the new ones. Whether purchasing in a physical store or online, the information provided by hardware manufacturers on product packaging or in their respective descriptions in online stores does not provide information about the availability of drivers for Linux, either to indicate that they exist or that they do not.

Been using Mint for years with my home directory on a separate drive. Rather than upgrade I do a clean install of new versions, when I remount my home drive I'm immediately back with all my setting on the new version.

I am running Linux and only Linux. I really haven't thought so much about why the last many years. One thing missing in the video is probably the one, that is the primary reason why I prefer Linux. Independence of one single company.
All the other reasons you bring up is spot on, and I'm pleased to be reminded about the things, you describe.
A good OS is like a cleaner service - you don't notice it until it's not there any more. Fortunately my Kubuntu is here and working perfect for me. :)

I've just installed antiX linux on an old Celeron D system with 2GB of RAM, and it works fine for basic web browsing, writing documents, burning dvd's, a little bit of YouTube playback, and playing solitaire. That machine is on par with a Pentium 4! This really shows that the hardware requirements for Windows 11 are insane, and it shows the strengths of Linux.

My mom is in her 70's; she was a Senior Test engineer at L3/Harris for 30 years; however she is not an efficient computer user, those details fall to me.
I made the choice to switch all the household computer to a Linux Distro, Zorin; except the gaming computer I have, that runs Windows.
My mom was able to pick up the use of Zorin O.S. very quickly, even learning how to install different packages, which is very helpful for me because I don't get the "help me" call.
This change allowed alot of my family, which is many people, to use older computer devices that are perfectly good for basic online use and even graphic picture or video work.

Linux updates are so much faster. Gigabytes of updates take just minutes to install, then a single restart and you're good to go. You can actually see what your computer is doing. No forced waiting to shut down your computer.
