They Look Identical. They Sound Completely Different (Taylor 414 vs Eastman AC422)

The Acoustic Shoppe

19,639 views

he Taylor 414 and the Eastman AC422CE are both rosewood grand auditoriums with spruce tops. On paper, they are virtually identical. But in the studio, they bring two entirely different philosophies to the guitar world. In this definitive shootout, John and Jeremy break down why the Eastman delivers a punchy, clear fundamental note and why Taylor continues to dominate the classic, blooming rhythm sound.

Eastman all the way.😎

25 years ago I went shopping for a Taylor acoustic. I came home with a Larrivee. Never looked back.

Both nice. The deal is this. The Taylor is "loading" up around 250 hz which can be problematic in a mix or with other instruments. By itself or accompanying a singer that could be nice. One thing for sure Eastman guitars are nobody's "second choice" They are one of the choices modern acoustic players have. A bonus that they cost less but the certainly don't "sound less" Great great demo as always.

Man!!! I really like the sound of both!!!

Thank you for this comparison. I was surprised on the last part that John played the Eastman really was louder.

Great comparison! I like the USA build and consistency of a Taylor. But, for my preference, the more open sound and clarity of the Eastman wins this round. Curious about the over $2k Eastman ACs vs next step up Taylor as well. Someday. I’m patient

Great review. One suggestion is to refer to each guitar by name. If you're not staring at the screen we don't know what this or that is referring to. Love the reviews otherwise keep them coming

Awesome comparison!

Oooo.... On a pinhole speaker on my phone.... I'm going with Eastman

Thank you for the great videos fellas- I love my Taylor GT but the price and value of Eastman always wins for me as I build my collection. I am definitely a melody picker so this video is very helpful 👍 can’t wait to pick up an Eastman, have my eyes on the E3OM and LG models

What a coincidence, I just published a video yesterday comparing these 2 models, which sounded a bit different in my video. In this video, they both sound very good and very similar, but the Taylor sounds a bit muffled, whereas the Eastman sounds a bit more snappy.

One man's depth is another man's mud! Eastman continues to blow my mind. You guys do make really great videos.

Todays Taylors are phenomenal. Eastman is wonderful as well

I like Eastman and Taylor a lot. I compare them a lot and find that Taylor regularly doesn't compete in my head until their 700 series guitars.

Great video and topic guys! Eastman are often compared to Martins. However the Ac422ce very much competes with the iconic Taylor grand auditorium. I am glad that you picked up on this, discussed it in detail and provided the sound demos. And to my ears eastman won.

Great demo guys. Thank you for this. Curious where you think the Martin GPC-16e, also a Spruce/Rosewood GA, would have stacked up against these two?

@OneSergioMendeseBrasil66Lover 1 day ago

Thank you so much.

@perrymattingly2133 1 day ago

That was a huge difference I;sound. I like fret board and pick guard and color of the back on Eastman. Don’t know the price but I think I’d like it better than Taylor’s. But sound and actual neck feel is 100% Taylor.

@terrymattingly6843 1 day ago

Now compare with a Larrivee L body at the same level. Right?

@CurtCollins-87 1 day ago

Great video guys. Eye's closed, headphones on, Taylor got my attention. The low E struck me as deep and strong. I preferred the tones and blending of the notes of the Taylor. I hear the separation of the notes and tones of the Eastman. Course the Veteran in me always leans me towards the American built guitars regardless of brand not saying the others are not fantastic builds. Thank you gentlemen.
