As a psychology graduate, I want to bring up the topic of "Optimal Anxiety Zone" where basically the challenge is just enough for people to continually improve. This doesn't just apply to real life, this also applies to games because, at the end of the day, games are recreational ENTERTAINMENT.
One of the main reasons why people want to play the same things over and over again is the pursuit of improvement because we as humans are wired to get satisfaction out of that. That could be ELO/MMR, that could be new gear, that could be improving you as a player, that could be a new area/map, more ways to play, maybe even a harder challenge.
The key thing though is that the challenge is proportional to the rewards... and both are insanely out of proportion in Crucible mode just so devs could squeeze more hours of the same operations from players.
Good luck to the devs because I just know they're going to be losing playercount for this.
Even with full penance debuff, it takes at least 26 run to reach max crucible tier. And the higher tier penance is even worse than stratagem debuff. And you need to do that for each 7 class.
To no one's surprise, Crucible ended up being Stratagems 2.0. Mode is conceptually flawed and serves only as placeholder for new mechanics/to stretch the player retention numbers
Crucible should not be class restricted. Once you unlock the Armour, it should be unlocked for all classes at the same time. Regardless of who you unlocked it with
I wasn't planning on doing this mode, but with this glitch. I haven't even played the other modes because I know It'll be patched, and even doing it on minimal with all these debuffs is annoying. I've played with debuffs for a full year, and I'm tried of everything being locked behind them, or BS Ultra ordeals. But it's not like I have a choice if I want drip.
I would make crucible shared between all armor type pieces and give more crucible XP for higher difficulties. Also, I would implement prestiging weapons for more build diversity
Devs need to understand that SM2 isn't the only game we play. We play other games, have lives, etc. This is like that one teacher/professor that would assign a dummy amount of homework with zero consideration for our many other classes.
They could set each level of crucible to a certain difficulty. It can be a great tool to improvement of a class. You get stronger and stronger until even absolute becomes as easy as others say.
Cheese Crucible! Go to operations, set to private (if you want) select minimal threat level, then go to to The crucible mode Chaplin, select penances, make sure you see The crucible level number next to your name and class. Boom 10-minute runs in obelisk low effort.
“The juice isn’t worth the squeeze” sums up the issue with the grinds in this game. If I wasn’t a hardcore 40k fan who loves seeing the universe brought to life, and the fun of doing the male Barbie doll customization along with the core gameplay loop I would have left this game long ago. Hardcores and 40k types will stick around but for regular players this game needs more content. New enemies, new operations and more cosmetics that can be unlocked without the sandpaper on your balls grind. Also add some artwork to the loading screens please (the artwork for the difficulties would be perfect) so that we aren’t staring at a black screen spending 40 min trying to get into a game. And they need to stop breaking stuff like cloth customization every patch.
Devs didn't think this mode through, my biggest gripe now is with matchmaking. From my experience so far players with level 5 and 6 take all depuffs and are dead for almost all map, some guys even go afk and when the respawn are immediately killed by mobs. I thin i will pass for now.
Instead of the debuffs, the developers could maybe force us to use certain builds and weapons. Or require us to kill a certain number of enemies with ranged or melee weapons during the mission.
My biggest gripe with Crucible mode is how many operations you have to grind just to unlock the armour pieces. Unless you're happy to have all your combat tools stripped away and every enemy imaginable spawning at your feet, it just ends up feeling like a less fun version of the daily stratagems.
I feel like I'm already seeing a drop off in players on crucible mode. The debuffs at right around lvl 3 seem to filter literally 98% of players myself included.
If they somehow made an operation that had more variety in areas and multiple paths to take like 3 times during the mission randomly kinda like Vortex only more random paths it would help alot. Need more Operations.
THE NEW PATCH IS BREAKING PLAYERS (Space Marine 2 Discussion) Patch 15
