I have been training working breeds for over 40 years. The worst thing you can do with obedience training is to never grow out of the treat for obedience. Treats are great for luring and rewards in the beginning. The dog needs to learn the best high value reward for instant obedience is YOUR PRAISE.

Many times, but I've realized that the dogs ambitious behavior is equally valid for what I trained them to do.

I have trouble with the heal command

my German Shepherd was a COVID puppy who was surrendered at 3yrs old when the restrictions were lifted. Knowing that made me very cautious because I knew the bond that exists between a German Shepherd and their person. He is a very well behaved mannerly dog and I feel blessed to have found him. The one command that has been difficult is heel. Most of his training took place in the house and heel wasn't part of it. I just got a new halter for him in the hope that it will help get what I want through to him. I don't want to strong arm him . I wil definitely take your advice about dropping a tr😮eat straight down to
my side. Any more ideas? Thank you

I have major issues with recall. It's like she will only come if she doesn't have anything better to do and it's so very frustrating 😊❤

Come Is good but when I'm done what I'm looking at or doing used to scold for not coming Quickly and Had to use E collar at the beginning, but now doing better with praising for coming sameas with the drop it with a toy starts to drop and Then resumes her Grip several times before she really let it go All these commands are Very important As we live in the Mohave Desert 3000 acres Of Open desert Just this week we Had a rattler come to the iron gate wanting to come under Grechan was softly wagging her Tail ( 5:15 am still dark dark out)as if she knew what it was or wanted to play Had watching it hiss and move if I did shine A flash lite to the direction she was looking I would have never Know and One of us would have gotten bit😮
I seen a another lay across the path We usually walk but I spotted it Just second before Grechan I was walking all 3 of my dogs we walk on leases now because I can get them away from danger faster then saying, No or drop it, come or Drop it but All of your tip and training has really clear me Learn some co new ways to approach the these commands
Thank you for sharing your training techniques with us with Ush

Our Shepard mix does place/kennel and will go to either on her own and stay there. I do at time go to her mat and cuddle or lay with her.
Off in my home is used when making the bed before bedtime.

Heeling and come

I have a bloodhound that is good with most commands but come still doesn’t work especially if we’re outside when that nose goes down he hears nothing. I’m still trying, but I’m about to give up on it, the problem is he has gotten loose a couple of times and he just runs the whole neighborhood. My first bloodhound got loose and was hit by a car and died so that is an extremely important command, but I just can’t get him to do it like you say it just doesn’t seem to work, he’s the hardest dog I’ve ever met in my life.
