Rosemond had arranged for Tupac to come to the studio and record a guest verse for Shawn & Henchman. Contemporary accounts say Tupac was supposed to receive about $7,000 for the feature.
Tupac was in financial trouble at the time because his legal case was draining his money and his scheduled shows had been canceled, so the payment mattered to him.
There are accounts that Tupac was concerned about whether the money would actually be there, and that's sometimes described as him demanding money he was owed—not Tupac owing Henchman. Túpac ultimately went to Quad, where he was robbed and shot. Years later, Dexter Isaac claimed that Henchman had hired him to rob Tupac and had paid him $2,500 for the job. Rosemond denied the allegation. Some of this dialogue was on CBS News.
So the financial relationship that night was essentially Henchman/Quad → Tupac: payment for a feature with Little Shawn, not Tupac owing Henchman: a debt. Is Gene Deal off the mark a little bit on that story regarding Pac owing Henchman?
