Thinking about moving to Florida, or retiring somewhere your money still goes a long way? Forget the beaches and the condos. In this video we count down 10 real homes with land in the old north of Florida, from a $349,900 house built in 1900 with six bedrooms and a grand staircase, all the way down to a 1920 farmhouse with stone arches on the porch for just $65,000.
Along the way: 42 acres with a pond and four barns, a house more than a hundred years old with its own cook shack, a real log home ten minutes from the Gulf, a 1915 house with an octagon room made of windows, a 1901 Victorian with more than 4,000 square feet, an 1896 farmhouse on 13 acres with its windmill still standing, a stilt house on a river that disappears underground, and the 1903 home of a church's pastor for under $90,000.
For each one we look at why it hasn't sold yet, what the current owner pays in property tax, and what matters if you're planning to retire: stairs or one level, and how far the nearest hospital is. Plus: why so many retirees move to Florida, and the two catches nobody tells you about.

Mine is the 1896 farmhouse in Fort White. Thirteen acres, wood walls everywhere, and the old windmill still standing in the yard, for $245,000. It needs work and it's cash only, but you can't build a house like that anymore.
