In Episode 148 of An Evolving Man, I’m joined by Jon Wedger (often known publicly as John Wedger) — former Metropolitan Police detective and one of the UK’s most prominent whistleblowers on institutional child sexual abuse, safeguarding failures, and the ways power can obstruct truth.
Jon served in specialist policing roles including child protection, before speaking out about allegations that abuse by powerful individuals was being ignored or actively obstructed. He describes the personal cost of whistleblowing, and why he believes justice is not optional if we want healing for survivors and real reform in safeguarding, policing and child protection.
This is a challenging conversation. It is also a necessary one.
In this episode we explore:
Why child abuse “knows no boundaries” — class, wealth, religion or status
How systems of silence operate, and why victims often don’t disclose for decades
The long-term impact of trauma, including emotional dysregulation and survival adaptations
Why inquiries can feel toothless — and what “real accountability” would look like
The link between power, reputation, and the protection of institutions
What listeners can do: reporting, recording, contacting MPs, and supporting systemic reform
This episode is also released in the lead-up to the House of Commons screening on Monday 19 January 2026, focused on mandatory reporting and stronger child protection structures.
If you are a survivor, please go gently with yourself. You deserve support.
