It's her singing.

Shelley Duvall did play Olive Oyl  in the Robert Altman film Popeye. And I think one of her best performances is in Altnan's Three Women.

Great reaction. Definitely a game changy movie. 😊❤

The winner of the 'Truman Capote lookalike contest' in Central park was played by Truman Capote

RIP Diane Keaton, an icon and forever missed

The woman with Woody at the end when he bumps into Annie at The Sorrow and The Pity is Sigourney Weaver.

"I'm standing here with the cast of The Godfather," he says to Kay Corleone.

So funny you said Shelly Duvall looks like Olive Oyl. She in fact played Olive Oyl to Robin Williams Popeye in a movie.

MANHATTAN MURDER MYSTERY is a great Keaton - Allen pairing. She was in HAIR on Broadway. The only one who didn't take off her clothes at the end.

I love love Manhattan

Diane was a singer. She made her professional debut in the original Broadway production of Hair, eventually replacing Sheila’s, the female lead.

Analyst = psychoanalyst = a Freudian psychotherapist. Psychoanalysis was a major theme for Woody Allen in that period. And pretty much all intellectuals and creatives in NYC were having analysis.

It's a weird meta-cinematic moment when Woody mentions The Godfather to Diane Keaton, who plays a major role in the Godfather series, and that happened not once but twice in the same year, here and in Looking for Mr. Goodbar.

Hannah and Her Sisters & Crimes and Misdemeanors are all-time classics.

Diane Keaton was in the original Broadway cast of Hair. She can sing.

Speaking as somebody who was already a fan of Woody Allen's films in 1977, I'd like to point out what a HUGE leap forward this movie was for Woody (and films about relationships in general).  His earlier movies are great... but they are all satires and parodies of different genres - the criminal life story documentary, heavy Russian literature and 19th century war, Banana republic revolutions, futuristic science fiction.

Annie Hall is a film that's essentially dead serious - apart from its jokes - about two adults having a complicated relationship, based on Allen and Keaton's recently concluded romance.  The number of storytelling innovations it introduced is dazzling!

The convoluted flashback-within-flashback structure was brand new (and has now been the de facto storytelling standard for decades); the subtitles showing what they're thinking at their first date; the characters appearing as younger versions and alongside themselves in the flashbacks (a technique Woody borrowed from Ingmar Bergman, see Wild Strawberries); the Snow White animated sequence; the breaking the fourth wall with the guy on the movie line and Marshall McLuhan; the split-screen sequence of Alvy and Annie talking to their therapists (not really a split-screen, it's on a set built to resemble a split-screen so they could perform together with perfect timing!)...

Many younger folks are "annoyed" that Annie Hall won Best Picture in the year of Star Wars (and this was true long before entire generations refused to watch Allen's films because of his alleged wrongdoing), but in its own way, Annie Hall was as great a leap forward as Star Wars.  And the other thing that folks who weren't around in 1977 don't understand was that Star Wars - while a huge hit and enormously fun - was simply not taken seriously.  SF had not yet unseated the western as the genre our society used to examine and understand itself.  And apart from occasional exceptions like 2001: A Space Odyssey, SF and sci-fi were almost universally just considered low-budget junk for kids and science nerds (who were at the bottom of the social order then, not yet cool folks who were gonna make a fortune with computers).

Anyway, most of Allen's films up to around Midnight In Paris are worth a watch.  Some - like Crimes and Misdemeanors and Hannah and Her Sisters - are masterpieces.  He's one of the most prolific and interesting 20th century writer/director/actors.  It's a real shame that so many young folks think he's "evil" and his movies are worthless.

The guy you can't recognize is Tony Roberts. He was in more Woody Allen Films, but I always remember him In the movie Serpico with Al Pacino.

You will love 'Sleeper' [1973]. ❤

I first saw this in film class and heard it described as "the Woody Allen film that even people who are not fans of Woody Allen like." I fell in love with it and my girlfriend at the time bought me a VHS copy as a gift. One day while she was driving, she parked by the side of the road and I let it slip out, just a snarky little remark, "that's okay, we can walk to the curb from here." I'm glad to say, she recognized the comment and, luckily, laughed!

Also, Christopher Walken was GREAT in his small role as Dwayne!

Not only did Diane Keaton sing those songs, but they were recorded on set while they filmed. That's not an overdub, those are two live performances.

The scene where Alvy is trying to recreate the lobster date is crushingly sad.

If you haven't seen it, Woody Allen's "Radio Days" is a terrific and nostalgic film about the world he grew up in.

Diane Keaton did do her own singing.

Laurie Bird, who played Paul Simon's girlfriend at the party, was later Art Garfunkel's girlfriend in real life, but she killed herself at the age of 25 with an overdose of Valium.
