VIVA - The Indonesian Army (TNI AD) uncovered suspected online gambling, or "judol," operating out of a house in the Cijantung Army Housing Complex (KPAD), Jakarta, on Sunday (October 4, 2026).
The Head of the Indonesian Army Information Service, Brigadier General Donny Pramono, explained that the case was uncovered following a public report regarding suspicious activity at a house in the housing complex.
Following up on the report, personnel from the 0505/East Jakarta Military District Command (Kodim), along with regional authorities, arrived at the location to conduct an inspection. Officers then secured the premises and several items suspected of being related to online gambling.
During the inspection, officers discovered several computers located in several rooms suspected of being used to operate online gambling.
A total of 11 civilians, six men and five women, were also detained from the location. All were taken to the Military Police Detachment for further questioning.
During the raid, authorities confiscated 32 computers, 14 cell phones, and nine identity cards (KTP) as evidence.
Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak also responded to the case. He called the alleged use of an Indonesian Army official residence as a location for online gambling operations a disgrace to the military institution.
Maruli emphasized that the Indonesian Army rejects all forms of online gambling activities. He also confirmed the detention of a soldier suspected of renting the residence to a party operating a gambling operation.
According to Maruli, any soldier found involved will face firm action in accordance with applicable Indonesian Army regulations. He assured that his institution will not provide protection to personnel involved in such illegal activities.
