The story opens with Yeong Eun, a swimming teacher and recently divorced mother. Her primary challenge, as quickly becomes clear, is her seven-year-old daughter So Hyeon, who exhibits disturbingly clear psychopathic traits. She emotionally abuses her mother, manipulates those around her, and targets other children who attempt to get close to her or Yeong Eun. Eventually, the emotional strain becomes unbearable, pushing both Yeong Eun and So Hyeon toward extreme decisions that could either sever or redefine their bond.
