Autoterm 4D Side Step Install | Alternative Diesel Heater Mount (MAN TGE / VW Crafter)

In this video I’m installing an Autoterm 4D diesel heater ( Autoterm UK discount Code 10% off MPA10 ) in a way you don’t often see a side mounted into the sliding door step of a MAN TGE / VW Crafter for my self-build overland campervan.
Most diesel heaters end up under seats, inside cabinets, through the floor on turret mounts, or mounted in sealed boxes underneath the van. All of those options have their own pros and cons. For this build, I’m taking a very different approach by using the factory sliding door step area.
I see the rear section of the step as something of a dead zone, especially in vans where the kitchen is installed directly above it. That makes it an accessible and efficient mounting location, while keeping the heater out of the main living space.
This setup only works on the rear-wheel-drive or 4x4 versions with the increased factory floor height. I also ran into a small issue with the doorstep plastics, which needed minor trimming to make everything fit correctly something worth knowing if you’re considering a similar install.
As always, this is a real-world install in my own van, covering what works, what doesn’t, and what you should think about before copying this approach.

As soon as I heard that noise, immediately thought fan jammed. I have a habit of free spinning before I turn them on. The fear of burning out the motor.
I have a 2KW under drivers seat, and a 5KW chinese right at the back. Mine is a LWB crafter, 4.3m long from rear doors to the back of the front seats.
Would it not be better to have the heater intake pointing downwards to let water spray to drain out ?
in norway it is often the original diesel heater engine/cupe in front. then I connect to a connector on the diesel pipe so that it sucks up diesel like the original heaters do. so it doesn't empty the tank
