THE DEATH OF CHEQUERA: The deception that made all of Cuba cry and the secret that destroyed Vivir del Cuento.
On December 28, 2015, Cuba's most-watched program aired a fake "Final Chapter" that brought Havana to a standstill. Over the years, the collective panic created the myth that "Chequera" (Mario Sardiñas) had died on screen. But the real tragedy wasn't a television joke. After Pánfilo's historic sketch with Barack Obama and the July 11 protests, the Castro regime unleashed a silent witch hunt against Vivir del Cuento, suffocating the program until it forced all its comedians into exile in the United States.
In this episode of Hidden Cuba, we reveal how ICRT censorship destroyed the country's most successful comedy:
✅ The Cuban Mandela Effect: The hidden truth behind Chequera's televised "death" and the panic in Havana on April Fools' Day.
✅ Dominoes with Obama (2016): The sketch from Old Havana where Pánfilo mocked the "blockade" and humiliated official propaganda in front of the world.
✅ Facundo's Purge: Why State Security expelled Andy Vázquez after his viral video about the chaos at the Cuatro Caminos market. ✅ The Punishment of 11J: The Cuban dictatorship's revenge against Luis Silva after he condemned the beatings and police repression in 2021.
✅ The Chequera Escape (2025): Mario Sardiñas' exile to Dallas, Texas, marking the definitive end of the original cast on the island.
Do you think the regime stifled Vivir del Cuento because Luis Silva and Mario Sardiñas had more political influence than the leaders themselves? Can the show be revived in Miami? Leave us your comment and share your opinion.
