In a world racing towards minimalism, Jaya and Venkat chose a different path.
Their 2300 SQFT duplex villament in Bangalore is a celebration of heritage, craftsmanship, and the beauty of living with things that carry meaning. Inspired by their roots in Palakkad, a region where Kerala and Tamil Nadu cultures intertwine, this home brings together Athangudi tiles, Chettinad-inspired details, century-old heirlooms, Kerala murals, handcrafted furniture, and treasures collected from travels across India.
The story begins at a grand teakwood entrance door and unfolds through vibrant yellow Athangudi flooring, a puja room wrapped inside a library, a rosewood pillar sourced from Chettinad, antique furniture passed down through generations, and a living room where every object has a story to tell.
But beyond the aesthetics, this is also a home designed around everyday life. A highly functional kitchen planned around Indian cooking habits, a teenager's room built around a raised drum studio, a private family lounge without a television in the main living room, and a terrace garden designed for slow mornings and evening conversations.
What makes this home special is its refusal to chase trends. Instead, it embraces imperfection, the natural blemishes of handmade tiles, the patina of old wood, and the character that only comes from objects that age alongside the people who use them.
This isn't just a home filled with Indian design. It's a home that feels unmistakably Indian.
